A bit of a "sliding doors" moment, but i have often wondered where we would be today if the Swans had have gone with Terry and he wasn't available at the end of 2004.

Would a different coach (perhaps Roos) have left us in a better position than we are in now, or would a different coach still have struggled due to the framework he has had to work within? Would we be contenders now, or still struggling to keep up with the rest of the competition?

If Alistair Clarkson had have got the gig, would Greg Miller and the club have allowed him to bottom out as he did at Hawthorn, or would he have been under pressure to deliver wins to the long suffering fans?

I guess we will never know....

wallarse could have traded early picks to his hearts content up there and no one would have minded. he missed the boat

From what I remember Terry was ready to go after his interview with the Swannnies the players/fans on finding out who their new coach was to be revolted and said we want Roos and Roos they got.
Terry was then paid out by the Swannies

The version I heard was that the AFL promised Wallace the Sydney job and paid his $400K salary for the media stint as compensation after it fell through.

shows how smart that footy club is. "wallace looks good from far but is far from good".
they shut him down and got a good coach in roos, there medical staff r the best in the AFL when it comes to keeping players on the park, the club is making truckloads of cash even though they never seem to sell out a home game and there fans always get to see there team put in a 7/10 at worst performance every week and are generally always competitive or winning games.

IT MUST BE NICE

I keep an eye on the swans and have to say during Ross stint as care taker coach I have never seen the supporters get behind someone like that ever.
Swans couldn't win a chook raffle untill Ross stepped in and he them winning some impossible games.
Supporters got right behind him, there was rallies outside the SCG, banners at games, letters to the club and a couple of petitions to make Roos coach were floating around.
The Board couldn't ignore what the supporters wanted and the way Roos turned around the club in such a short time.

The supporters got it right this time and Roos repayed the faith.

Yeah and when we do it who do we end up with.....Geischen. Only at Richmond;.

A couple of counter thoughts to this hypothetical.
1. Who knows if any coach could have overcome the disastrous list we had at the time.
2. Who knows if any coach could have overcome the culture of the club. Terry did a great job of cleaning house (if nothing else) and had the team going from the start - we had some massive wins early in the peace. Something must have worn him and the enthusiasm of the group down.
3. The swans have been successful no doubt, but they are horrible to watch and play dreary footy. Would that have been tolerated IF we were not going great. If we were traveling well everyone would be happy, but 1 bad year and the members would tire of watching boundary throw-ins.

Not saying for a moment that it wouldn't have worked out better, but there are some indications (like 30 odd years of failure) that there is more to it than the coaching staff.
this is why i would love to see Sheedy as caretaker. If anyone can provide an elixir to our cultural issues, its him.
