If Simmo got injured (or just needs a rest) ...

Suprised me a bit this year when Knobel was used for long periods at CHF for Coburg, not in the Ruck. Seems the coaches, particularly Coburgs are putting a lot of work into improving his round the ground skills.

Any one who thinks Hall is a viable option as a Ruckman for ANY period of time has obviously NEVER seen him play that position. He is possibly the LAST person I would play in that position and that seriously does include players like Foley and Krakouer.

Could this have been more protective than skill building? He was returning from injury and extended periods of rucking, even at Coburg, could have easily hampered his recovery IMO. Still, any practice is good practice for a still-developing footballer.

It must be just me and one of my good mates (not a tiger fan) who thinks Patto is gunna be a really good player. I think his lankyness makes him seem slow and uncoordinated...but if you watch him while your at the game you will see he is actually pretty quick and has good mobility aswell.

Agree totally - I'm with you 8Ball. His mobility is better than most people seem to think. Reports have him sprinting well, he is a great assist player, which basketball fans like myself will appreciate as being highly valued. Patto has been a good get from a developing player's perspective.

I'm trying to think of a team that has a better #2 ruckman than Knobel (when fit).

Brisbane are in good shape if Beau McDonald's knees can stand the rigours - he has made it though 2006 now, though ended with Hammy problems. He and Charman (who was a great improver in 2006) are a good combo - add in the gun recruit Loonyberger, Mitch Clark as a pinch hitter up forward, and I'm reliably told that Cam Wood has come ahead in leaps and bounds this pre-season so far. HOWEVER, all but Wood were injured in 2006!

Beau McDonald is very much in the Knobel mould, Phar. Very similar types. I agree, with him in the mix the Lions have a better #2.

But McDonald is a regular race-goer. Has been injured for years. Years. Missed the start of 2006 and then fell over again after Rd12. This was a big improvement. I have a line through his name until I see otherwise. Good luck to him.

Wood might be a comer but he has no score on the board. There are plenty of potentially better rucks in the AFL than Knobel. Just not that many proven better.

Interesting that Brisbane has shown a preference for the bigger rucks, steering away from the cruiserweight, outside running type. This is a weakness in the make up of their ruck division IMO. Lethal's philosophy?

Simple as this ....

Knobes has to step up and cover as second ruck cos Pattison is not ready and Graham quite simply aint gonna make it in my opinion from what ive seen of the kid.

Still think we shoulda taken another ruck as a rookie if any half decent ones were available as opposed to another 2 smalls.

Dear all at PRE,

I wish to categorically and unreservedly apologise for starting this thread.  In future I will make any observations of RFC players purely in a vague and boring way so as not to moz anybody.  Oh dear god - what have I done?! I will however continue to ask pertinent questions about Eddie McGuire, Dermott Brereton and Joffa.

Love hopper.

keep those joffa questions coming, maybe a remark or two on that gold jacket wouldn't hurt either
