If the players are proud of that effort then I will fair dinkum spew!!!!

when i left the game last week i was gutted and when i left the game today i was gutted, but in a different way. i was gutted last week because of our shocking effort. i was gutted today because we were in a winning popsition and yet again fluffed it.

nothing changes at tigerland, todays game is the type of game we never win. will we ever mature as a group? as the title of this thread states... If the players are proud of that effort then I will fair dinkum :vomit

That's right, but it brings on more questions. Why draft unskilled players which is something Edwards is showing now in his 3rd year? What's the point of McMahon ? Why keep Schulz in the team if he virtually has no impact every week?

Does this coach realise that the more unskilled players we draft, the harder the work is going to be to teach them the way?

McMahon is definately a Terry issue. But does he really have much say in who we draft? I mean, all season he is supposedly focussed on coaching, and I guess that when the season ends he gets to look at tape of potential draftees, but surely he doesn't have an ultimate say. I'd have thought he might have a strong voice on what type of players we want, for example, a ruck, CHF, inside mid or whatever, but I can't really see him getting the call on too many individuals. He wouldn't have time to review it all properly.

He is there on draft day.

Where has it been said by any RFC personnel on any forum or media outlet that they're proud of the effort today. TW says he was gutted, and according to a couple of reports the players are devastated. But on the plus side there's a lot more to take out of this game than last week. They all know what is expected and must be delivered each week to be successful.

Are you sure about that?
I thought he was even overseas for a recent draft

I've heard the draft on the radio and Wallace was there to speak after it finished. They showed it on TV during news time at 6.00pm

Either way, whoever is responsible for drafting, it's the coaches' job to train and develop that player.

Fair enough, but I am not sure that being there means the coach has that big of a say.

It would be interesting to know, but I guess we never will.

Like I just said, whoever we recruit, it's the head coach's responsibility for development of skill of that player.

I'm quite sure Wallace has some say in who is recruited.

When Geelong played well we played very, very badly. There were so many horrible turnovers in the game - by horrible I mean the ball not just missing a target but even missing a 50-50 contest and going directly to a Geelong player. And the whole standing there with the ball looking upfield and not seeing anything to kick to - that seemend to happen dozens of times. Any team that can put the pressure on us is going to have an absolute field day and will give us another "honourable" loss.

I'd go along with that post the Cousins drafting...but after last season's finish and before Cousins was even mentioned as a possibility, even I expected us to have a real crack at the top-8.

I think we still will Livers, think the boys will be expecting it still toooooooo.

We finished the season off o.k....Wallace has had this group for 5 years and made the team "his" (after using the 'Frawley train-wreck' he inherited for his first couple of seasons as the excuse).

With the near-complete turnover of players, this now makes it one of your better statements :-X

More fool I, I guess for expecting us to improve again.

You're no fool Livers. We are 2 games in Livers. The crash and burn against Carlton was not a usual game - and RFC failed to handle it - pure and simple. The head failed the body. The 2nd game of 22 against Geelong sounded like some self-belief has returned. In a winning position but lost. Disappointing but better focussed at least. The head just failed the body.

And the warning signs were there in that NAB Cup game........and I can just see this forum, come round 10 or something changing to the old chestnut of "lets blood some youngsters and get some draft picks"....and the usual threads predicting the team in 2020 (maybe Rudd can have it on his next '2020 comrade convention" :hihi ).

I can also see the possibility of Richmond being 5 and 5. The possibilities are endless (well not quite - there are only about 40320 possibilites - but you know what I mean), but you do have to open your eyes to see them.

Sorry to pick on your post mate, it's just some of the others where just too abject - I wonder why they even claim they barrack for the Tiges sometimes. Perhaps they enjoy the combination of criticism and appearing right all the time. That's slowly changing ;)

What was done effort wise is what is normal and expected every game, today is no different.

After such a bold 3rd Q, why did they come out flat footed, and back into their shells??

They stuffed up a great opportunity to win the game of footy!!!!

:veryupset

Well i hope your got the vomit dribbling down your gut. The Tiger boys busted their guts against a side that could ahve easily have won the premiership last year and you are insinuating that they did not try or should not be proud of there efforts.

they may not win as much as what they should and Richo wont finish with any silverwear as he deserves but at least they are sweating blood when they play.

you should be ashamed of yourself for stating this thread. Bet you wouldnt go down to the rooms and the end of this game and trott out this garbage to the players

who do you really barrack for Tigerextra?

Me, I barrack for the Richmond tigers and I stand by them week after week even after the 150 loss to Geelong

A bit late I know but I have just been watching the Geelong game and have just got to 3/4 time, and I have to say that third quarter was amazing. Not only the effort but what impressed me most was that after busting their collectives to get back into the game they were kicked in the guts by:

1. Laughable umpiring which directly gave Geelong three goals and put the margin back out to 26.
2. Three easy misses by us which left it there.

In seasons past that would have been enough to take the wind out of our sails and let Geelong career away to a 12 goal win.

I was impressed by the spirit the Tiges showed to get another four goals late in the quarter and snatch the lead. Haven't seen the last quarter yet, though. :-\

Rubbish. watch the good teams play each week and you will realise we do not try enough and we are a disgrace. I still go to every Melbourne game but it doesnt mean I am going to accept the crap that we are a playing. This is loser talk and accepting mediocrity.

The performance against Geelong was far superior to the previous week (naturally couldnt get much worse). A terrible first quarter and a bit of class made the difference in the end. It irks me that everytime someone makes a positive comment it is considered loser talk and accepting mediority by some who refuse to acknowledge any positives. Every game has its positives and negatives. A good team will assess a performance in a balanced way, not focus solely on the negatives. That is a sure way to induce further pain.

Generally the players try hard enough, they dont play smart enough. You cannot have 4 quarters of extreme pressure and intensity, thats why every game has its different intensity levels at different stages of a game. You have to learn to use the right times to increase that pressure. That's where we need to improve markedly.
