If we had to line up for a Grand Final today, how would we line up?

Why is Matthew Richardson still part of our plans in 2008?

I hope he is.

If Richo can play a Lynch type role playing in the square we will have a much better chance of winning a flag imo compared to Richmond without Richo.

Ahhh...Czar...Let me remind you, Lynch was playing from the square with almost the best football team in the last 50 years.
Richmond doesn't have a list like Brisbane for Richo to prolong his career for another 3 years.

FB: Kellaway Gaspar Thursfield
HB: J Bowden *smile* Johnson
C: Deledio Cogs Tambling
HF: Pettifer Hall Krakour
FF: P Bowden Richo Brown
R: Simmonds, Tuck, Newman

Interchange Pattison, Chaffey, Hyde, Tivendale

We need a balance of established players and youngish players. If we won it then it would be the flag won by the Tiger Cubs.

This question has kept me amused all week. Not a happy ending I'm afraid. ;D

I like your team, Heather. Mine's a bit different.

FB: Thursfield J.Bowden Gaspar
HB: Hartigan *smile* Newman
C: Hyde Cogs Chaffey
HF: Pettifer Hall Deledio
FF: P.Bowden Richo Tambling
R: Simmonds, Tuck, Johnson

Interchange: Knobel, Kellaway, Tivendale, Krakouer

Emerg: Stafford, Nobody, Foley

Brown, Rodan (inj)

I think Thursfiled is 190cm, a small IMO. J.Bowden is 188cm, a tall IMO. I guess I'm being a little tongue in cheek but he fits the physical bill and is a lot tighter than Leaky Leo who just played FB in a premiership team. That said, I think this is pretty much the right shape for our backline.

Gaspar to play zoning back pocket to free Bowden to run. A. Kellaway to change with Newman. Newman to a wing.

Hartigan and Newman for run off half back. Newman for precision. Hyde to change if Newman starts to leak.

Chaffey #1 tag. He's our only fully defensive mid. Hyde run with role. Cogs chief run with role. Plays his best footy when running with IMO.

Sugar and Tucky pack breaking and clearing. Simmonds to ruck and play running wingman role. May change with Hall for around the groung running.

Hall to get up the park, to the backline if necessary. Decoy CHF. P.Bowden to push up to CHF and wings. Pettifer wide leading target with Bling. Deledio to push deep into holes behind the leading Richo.

Deledio to change with Cogs and Tucky for bursts (Sugar to run with then).

Tivendale for to give Hyde or Chaffey a chop out. Knobel for Simmonds (Decoy CHF) and Krakouer to free Bling for a run, maybe off HB for Harto.

Not many sides we can beat with this line-up.

I think that this time next year, the line-up, will look very different. With Rodan and Brown out, it was really tough to find average smalls. We just don't have enough quality runners. Haven't for ten years.

All these sides contain players of a list that has finished last and 12th in the last two years and has performed poorly and we are putting them in proposed Premiership sides on stats. ::)

craig, I think the idea of this thread is to show that not only do we lack quality players but maybe we are the wrong shape too.

Thanks Dyer'ere cos i thought Phanto had fallen off the trolley as he is such a concise poster. Yep i see what the thread means but i for the life of me cannot see finals and success with this list and a tougher draw.

Agree

I wouldn't give us much chance, either, carig, mb.

And we look like *smile* without N.G.Brown.

We've got three crops coming through. A third of those youngsters will make it. That's maybe six or so players in 2006/7.

I still think that Phantom's right about our shape being out of order.

BTW, Greg Miller said that we see Joel Bowden as viable at CHB (not to say we're playing him there). If he plays tall we look a lot better down back IMO. I know mb agrees.

If we had to line up for a Grand Final today, how would we line up?

for 2006...

Lining up outside the MCG waiting to get in to watch 2 other teams play off other than RFC.

Lining up at the bar waiting to get more beer to drown the sorrows RFC still not in the big one,

Lining up at the toilets in the MCG

Lining up at the cab rank or ticket office for public transport to get home.

For 06 it will be lining up to watch 2 other sides play but at least there is no broken tiger hearts on Grand Final day haaahahahhaahahahahahahaaaa :hihi :hihi :hihi :hihi :hihi :hihi :hihi :hihi :hihi :hihi :hihi

Hi Craig,

Sorry to throw you.
If you go back to the first post on the first page, this will explain the context.

Here's another boredom breaker.

Over the last few weeks we've looked at the elements of successful sides. We've seen what they're composed of, and what is recruited as a consequence thereof.

So,
If we had to line up for a Grand Final today, how would we line up?

If the context isn't clear, it was merely a mental exercise using what we'd learnt from the common structures of successful sides and applying it to the list that we currently had.

Nothing devious, just fun.

Tis not hard to throw me Phantom ;D

Hartigan Gaspar Kellaway
Bowden Hall Newman
Tambling Cogs Johnson
Pettifer Simmo Richo
Krak Bowden Staff
Knobel Tuck Lids

Inter Tivendale *smile*, Thursfield, Foley.

Browny really hurts not being there.

-Start Richo on a flank for the first ten minutes to catch the other teams coaching box out. Then drop him in the sqaure with Staff and push every one else outside the 50.

-Lids start in the middle go for ten then swap with foley who has come on to the forward line for Bowden to try and create a tall on a small in the goalsquare with Richo and Staff with everyone else stay out the 50. If they drop a back pcoket on him tell him to go onto the ball as second centreman. Tell Cogs to ruck rove and push Tucky to CHF. He is really a forward pcoket but if he a small on him he is a good option. Just trying to keep it moving.

Just some ideas to start. Can't do defensive matchups because you don't who we are playing but having Thirsty on the bench gives us flexiablity.

*smile* as your spare KPP and can spell Stafff at FF while he goes in the ruck and Knobel goes to the bench.
Sime with SImmo when he goes on to the ball. *smile* to CHF.

well if i was the opposition coach the first thing i would do is smash lids & tambling - that ends Richmonds pace advantage
the second thing would be to zone off on P.Bowden, Petts & Krak (because they are not signifant goal scoring threats) - double team richo, spoil the long ball to Stafford and rebound off Simmons, Staff & Richo (particularly down the RH HB line) - i would focus my offence at CHF and attack Hall because he is a hack and make J.Bowdens man a key focus in the fwd line to make Joel accountable

Thats just for starters

The same way the Richmond team has lined up for all the Grand Finals since 1982, at the turnstyles.
