I went to the 73 and 74 GF with my mum. I can still smell the linament, and bought a WEG poster after the game. I have trudged through the years since then, but always enjoyed the young blokes, the hope - Jimmy Jess, freeza, craig lambert, michael pickering (used to work his clacka off), Knighta, trevor poole, then Richo and Joel.

I left at quarter time today, i have never done that before. I normally can watch a game, any game, objectively and see the positives, and enjoy the spectacle.
Today was empty and devoid of hope. i have done my dash for now. I will not go again until things are righted. Lids is talented, but has NO presence.

Not to mention the coaching effort - 7 forwards first quarter, getting smashed. Pies forward line beautiful and open, one on ones. Surely they werent trying in the coach's box.
Anyway, ive done my dash.

Merveille i sympathise with you.In many respects i feel the same way,but i just cant run away from this.I'll stick with them through this ,in the hope that one day things will turn around.
When they do it will be oh so sweet.
Dermie on SEN today made a statement that impressed me .he said something along the lines that Richmond supporters are unique amongst the AFL ,and their passion second to none.Yes we are what Dermie said and more......so jump on board again Merveille and lets ride this thing as far as it can go.

But BArtty, how fr..kin long can it go on/ I cant believe it. Surely after a while , with the draft, you would even become good by accident??

you would think so merveille ,but alas its Richmond we are talking about.A club that continues to self destruct just when things begin to turn...But its the suburb i grew up in and its the club i support...Its as simple as that...NO RICHMOND=NO AFL for me

yeah same, but it really hurt today, being Collingwood, and a milestone game. Like really hurt

yep i agree..today was also joels last game too.A member of a proud Richmond family, and we dished up this load of crap for him

To be fair, he dished up his own plate of crap for a fair portion of the game too.

Bris, most pundits knew Joels best football was past him....I guess thats why he was given the nudge to call it quits.Nevertheless he has played 260 odd games for us and deserved better today

Hey I'm 42...don't be a pussy Merv...we have been lower than his before and there are some promising youngsters coming through...new coach, Benny is CEO stick with them and hopefully you can think about this overnight and we can catch you next week against the Hawks.

haha......you would think that after all these years, even by accident as you said we would at some point become a good team.
its like were trying to be shiyte all the time, and its working!!

know how you feel merv, Im a year older and recently found myself leaving early for the first itme in my life....i'VE HUNG UP THE DUFFLE COAT FOR THE YEAR...i'LL HOOK UP AGAIN NEXT YEAR...BUT WITHOUT A MODICUM OF EXPECTATION...COULDN'T BARE TO HAVE THEM DASHED IN SAME STYLE AS 2009...AS THEY SAY IN THE CLASSICS HOPE SPRINGS ETERNAL...ONCE WE SEE A NEW COACH WITH A RAFT OF NEW ASSITANTS AND A DOZEN NEW LISTED PLAYERS...i'LL BEGIN LOOKING FORWARD...RIGHT NOW i CANT WAIT FOR THE DAMN CURTAIN TO DRAW ON THIS HORROR SHOW :o

Well I was 45 yesterday and I was thinking during the week that I was a young lad when we last won a flag. 29 sad years ago. I was blooming 16 and thought this is pretty good. '82 I did not even watch it thinking we'll win and if not it will only be a couple of years around the corner before we are there again. You see we were a force back then but a shamozzle since. It just hurts deep down in my heart.

Worst thing now is when you see the kids that come in looking okay and then they get tainted by the crap around them.

Go Tigers! Please!

Fully agree.

I can't believe young/middle aged people have only seen finals twice in 27 years.

I stayed to the end only because of loyalty and Joel.

The crowd was just flat. No anger or sadness, just flat.

Our supporters are so used to being in our current position that we have just got used to it. We have all been angry and upset over the years so many times that these days I feel that eveyone just has become tired of it and accept it.

It dosn't mean we like it, but hosestly what do you do? Over the years I have yelled and got frustrated like everyone else, but against Coll I just sat there quietly like eveyone else waiting for it to end wishing I wasn't there. It was sad how we all just accept it now.

Been there done that. We all don't like it, but getting angry won't help. We just have to hope our loyalty we be rewarded and our passion and love for our club will be shown then.
