I've been following the tiges for 40years through all of our ups and downs, and these days go to the footy wondering what the footy gods will bestow on us.

Yesterdays first have effort was good, and I know in the end the crows played better football thus deserved the win,BUT I had to walk from the ground midway through the last quarter after what Id call the softest free kick at the punt Road end Ive ever seen was awarded to them.

As I walked to my car I asked myself these questions:

1. If the Grand Final is the ultimate game and showcase for the year, then why not let the game flow like that with home and away games.

2. Nathan Brown's rundown of an opponent in the 3rd quater,a classic was not rewarded....WHY?

3. Why do umpires tend to give established "stars" leaway with decisions, yet youngsters and lesser players do not get this consideration. (Dean Bailey) mentioned that a cpl weeks ago his players had tackled opponenets who did 180 and 360 degree turns whilst being held for no reward.

I have no doubt they umpire on reputation NOT as the situation at the time requires.

4. If the players are confused is it any wonder the fans and guys like myself feel compelled to write to Jeff Gieschen as I will this week.

5. What guarrantee can he give to the fans that umpires do not bet on results.

Any other thoughts as to what i should ask I'd be happy to put to him,I wont be disrespectful to him and will request a reply. ???

a few poor ones yesterday

+ all the 50m penalties
+ browns great tackle not rewarded
+crows 2nd goal from the free kick
+last quarter softy to thompson
+one not paid to matt white in thurs term in forward pocket

crows got a bit a 10pts help but no way did it change the result....soft game though now

Jeff wouldn't listen. He doesn't listen to the coaches or the media. He thinks he's still coaching the RFC and encouraging mediocrity will be rewarded. He better hope that Sheeds doesn't start angling himself for the umpires director position or he'll have to resign after the AFL extend his contract and back him in public, but privately are talking to Sheeds.

From memory Adelaide were gifted about 5 or 6 goals from *smile* umpiring, but that's not why we lost.

We lost because we got scared we were going to win and Wallace reminded them of the precious PP at halftime. Seriously we should have been 6 goals to one a quarter time and the game would have been about over there and then. I wish Geischen would tell Terry what the rule of the week is going to be on Friday afternoon and he can coach accordingly, we seem to run foul of it every week.

pOLAK GOT A GOAL FROM A REALLy soft free kick

Shocking umpiring that went both ways yesterday.

(Was it Moore they paid a free against in the first quarter for interfering in the marking contest on the lead ? What a joke of a decision that was. The air probably provided more resistance or interference to the Crows player than Moore did. Completely 100% soft that decision.)

I was perplexed over the first 50 that was a small tug on the jumper, but technically the free was there.

Later when Bowden marked the ball, the ball was reefed out of his hands after the mark and no 50.

Did the umpires forget?

There were many frees both ways that were perplexing and frustrating.

Umpires need to take a good hard look at themselves, but so do our players.

i actually thought we got some charity in the 1st qtr.they evened it up in their favour later on tho. It was nothing like the north game, king was'nt allowed to look at Corey jones without a free being given.

Is that tosser Geischeizenhousen accountable to anybody? :don't know :don't know

If he was he would have been sacked years ago.

Talk about getting money for nothin'. ::)

Adelaide had 7 goals from free kicks and I am unsure whether that includes at least 2 dubious 50 etre penalties that resulted in goals. Has to be some sort of record I would think. Tigers received 4, as a combined effort it has to be a record. Way over-umpired and regardless of outcomes it ruins games for the spectators. It was obvious by watching other games as well so far that the focus this week for umpires is the pushing or holding of a player after they've marked the ball. Just umpire the damn game consistently instead of having these focus points each week.

Richmond were out played in the 2nd half yesterday and consequently lost another game which was seen as another dissapointing loss. My first review of the game with a fellow Tiger supporter started with the standard of umpring. "I know you dont like me harping on about the umpires" he said, "but what about when so and so had the ball...or "why didn't we get rewarded when so and had the ball in the same fashion as the Adelaide player?" This type of discussion is all too common for me.

Take the consipiracy factor out of your minds guys - Its a terrible way of following the game.

Sorry what's the conspiracy? It's honest appraisals about the quality of umpiring, which in general is getting worse and worse as time goes by. Surely there is an obligation not just by clubs to fix their wrongs, but by the AFL to fix theirs.

When you're winning, the focus of our team is improving our standard of play to win the flag. When you're losing, we focus on the standard of umpriing to improve our game. Are we on the same page or the same thread for that matter?

Not sure if we are on the same page but the common theme we're getting from all supporters is the frustration at umpiring decisions. Now I know there are alot of grey areas and this is an age old topic but I just can't understand, for example, how an umpire can get that first example against Moore so wrong (the 50 metre penalty). These umpires are close to the action. How on earth do you make something out of nothing? I can understand a holding the ball, did he or did he not have a prior opportunity, very interprative, but this 50 metre for pushing after the mark thing, geez they weren't paying them at all, and this weekend I've seen many of them. What does that tell you? It's almost like the umpires are feling the pressure of getting these decisions right due to it coming up as the topic of the week at umpires training, and due to the pressure getting it terribly wrong. This umpiring franternity is a fly-by-night operation at the moment, and it makes the game extremely frustrating to watch, I can't imagine how frustrating it is for the players.

I don't think anyone is focusing purely on the umpiring decisions. Most if not everyone agree our performance in the 2nd half was pathetic and there is some real tough decisions to now be made. I don't often comment on umpiring but the over-umpiring was chronic and needs to be fixed. This is not just about complaining about umpiring standards for the sake of complaining.
