PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

Most posters would probably be aware I was contacted by Sportal with a threat of legal action if we continue to copy artilcles from Sportal, AFL and RFC websites.

I found that disappointing seeing they alleged we were costing RFC money by doing it, when in fact I'd asked the club's permission and had their blessing and they actually commented that the extra traffic was beneficial for them.

It's been a  moderating nightmare ever since and from the amount of e-mails I get it seems others are as confused as I am about the situation.

Things haven't been working too well so I think the only  answer is to stop copying articles and links from the above 3 sites altogether

If people want to discuss something from the RFC site for example please post something like "I read on the RFC site that so and so did such and such" and discuss whatever it was.  Seeing it's not copied content a link isn't needed and those interested will know where to go to read the article.

At this stage it's fine to copy articles from sites other than Sportal, RFC and AFL ones as long as a link is included.

I'm sorry about this but the risk just isn't worth it, especially seeing it's a real possibility we were dobbed in in the first place.

(We were contacted by Sportal a few hours after Peter Toby posted the Sportal e-mail details on his website suggesting people dob in other sites that have copied articles.  That could be coincidence but then again it just might not be considering the very anti PRE anti rosy secret section he has on his website. )

Also a reminder than there shouldn't be any articles copied onto the DyerTribe board, as is becoming more regular again.  The What the Journos Say is for articles

I'm sorry about this and hope people understand. I'm not happy about the situation myself but I have no desire to face any legal action.  If we only had a handful of posts a day it might be different but with hundreds, even in the off-season, it's simply too hard and to keep a watch on.
