Gee, it's such an early call to pillory the Judd deal just 9 games in......... and an equally premature call on Cotchin, as good as we think he is so far.

Hang on there Racey......

Moore's was a dud, Richo should have retired, Cotchin already has 3 Brownlows in the bag.

You're almost saying we get ahead of ourselves around here?

Maybe somone could enlighten me on when the last time a team who traded young players and/or draft picks for a mid-career gun mid fielder (like the Judd situation) resulted in a grand final or at least a prelim spot within the next 2-3 years. I know it has happened with KPP's (Ottens, Hall etc.) but I don't remember it happening with mids.

Ian Stewart from St Kilda to Richmond. But guess that doesn't count as it happened so long ago before the draft system.

Whilst leysy generally agrees with the theory Juffa, its not that cut & dried.

Off the top of leysy's head Tyson Stenglein & Paul Williams were both highly rated (moreso Williams ILO) midfielders whose teams wouldn't have won a flag without the respective trades being done.

Again, nice effort, but not quite in the same category. Williams was traded for #8 and #39 which Collingwood turned into James Clement and Brodie Holland and in turn played 5 seasons averaging 18 disposals and was handy. Kerr would demand a lot more and he is rated way higher than Williams ever was.

I had a look back to see what trades were done with a quality proven midfielder and a decent number of draft picks or players and I realised that besides Judd it hasn't happened obviously cos' clubs just aren't willing to pay the price for them but as I said earlier they are willing to do it for KPP's and even some of them turned out to be flops like Adelaide's trade for Carey. So it would be a very brave move to try anything.

Or perhaps clubs aren't willing to trade them...
