Incentive based pre-season training

Great idea, outside the box by TW once more.

Also helps to keep the younger guys focused. Teaches them that every little thing they do on the track counts. No such thing as off days when everything counts. Great idea.

All the game plans are in place by the first game, if anything it will the younger guys get used to using Tw's game plan against fair dink um AFl pressure as opposed to the %80 style of intra clubs.

I would enjoy it even more if we could see the list.

Hell even more importantly this sort of initiative might just unearth another rising star amongst our midst. :clap

Repay those who put it on the line. Great initiative imho.

I would have thought players, no matter how young, know that the harder they train the more likely they will reap the rewards. I really dont think incentive bases like this are necessary, the best players show out their attitude without the need for short-term incentives. Does this mean that the hardest workers will get a game before someone with much more talent by the way? Anyone know exactly how they score?

It's a great idea, innovative, gives TW a genuine reason if he does pick an 'experimental' team for the Mickey Mouse Cup and it shows the young guys that if you work hard enough you get some rewards. I wouldn't be surprised to see other clubs implement similar initiatives.

Does anyone know if the rookies are allowed to play in the pre-season cup?

Too right.

I reckon this is a good idea. FWIW I don't reckon it's a huge change from what TW normally does but now he's widened the scope and made it measurable and public.

It impacts the preseason of all bar nine players, who are experienced enough to manage their own preseason training levels.

I think it is a great idea.  Training is essentially hard work and often very repetitive.  Something to keep them all focussed on all their sessions is a good thing.

1. Its only for one game. There will be another 4-5 games where it won’t apply.

2. Most of the 15 will probably end up being regulars anyway. The program just provides added motivation/incentive for a few guys who might not otherwise have got much of a look in and keeps pressure on those regulars to hold their spot as well. Training goes up a notch as a result.

3. There’s still another 9 players to pick at the full discretion of the coaching and selection committee, thus avoiding positional deficiencies.

Really, there’s nothing about the program that will prevent RFC from doing its usual preparation of playing style, tactics, positional trialing etc. throughout the pre-season.

Very smart initiative by Wallace imo.

Great Great post Red!
