I think you would find my anti-Hawthorn and anti-Essendon trolling wouldn't be frowned upon as much in these parts as it is elsewhere ;)

Perhaps, but some things do transcend party allegiances.

I'm not sure that Evo was too thrilled a few years back when I mistook him for you (from memory he was mirroring the style of one of your patented anti-hawk tirades).

Not that I'm wanting to agitate tensions between posters on here, of course.

Sincere apologies for my poor spelling ck, as a teacher I should obviously know better - (insert slightly rolled eyes at the relevance of my spelling).

Ck, we all develop opinions on players. I'm sure we all have one on say Akermanis. But we know what are opinions are like don't we. Anyway, my opinion of Franklin isn't high due to his withdrawal of from the Indig match, his need for a chaperone and his shopping himself around midseason. I don't put deep thought into whether it's substantiatied, in the belief that very often, where there's smoke there's fire. I've got better things to use my private thinking time on than Hawthorn players. It's not good enough to defend him with bleats along the lines of "It's not my fault. My bossy widdle club wouldn't let me play. Really, I'm a model citizen but, as a clear superstar of the comp, the club needs me to shake hands with a few Tassie locals rather than support my own Indigenous people on one of the most important days on the AFL calendar for them." If he had some nuts and some conviction on this, he'd have been there.

I contend again, poor form by BF and HFC. Your eloquent little irrelevant pleas for proof of all things Franklin won't sway me. We are Richmond - we know spin when we see it!

Why apologise.

Your spelling wasn't wrong, I just prefer to use UK English over American English...

I would think most of us would be unlikely to flick our employers the bird and to ignore a directive in order to do as we please, but that could just mean that I need a larger set of testes...

Of course, it would have been great for you had he done just that, because it would have given you ample ammunition to fire off at him for being arrogant, attitude-challenged and putting himself above his club.

I can recognise an agenda when I see it. ;)

Just to clarify, this wasn't a case of UK vs American English.

From dictionary.com:

mar·quis a nobleman ranking next below a duke and above an earl or count

mar·quee
1. a tall rooflike projection above a theater entrance, usually containing the name of a currently featured play or film and its stars.
2. a rooflike shelter, as of glass, projecting above an outer door and over a sidewalk or a terrace.
3. Also, marquess, marquise. British. a large tent or tentlike shelter with open sides, esp. one for temporary use in outdoor entertainments, receptions, etc.
4. superlative; headlining: a marquee basketball player.

Very different meanings, and hopper was correct to apologise for the error.

Yes, but...

The Macquarie Dictionary
marquee
// (say mah'kee)
noun 1. a large tent or tentlike shelter, sometimes with open sides, especially one for temporary use providing refreshment, entertainment, etc.
2. US→ marquise (def. 4).
--adjective 3. having public recognition or appeal: marquee name; marquee value. [assumed singular of MARQUISE taken as plural]

Of course, now I'm regretting I even mentioned the term.

And the more important issue is what a marquee player is, rather than how its spelt.

I'll say. Buddy is not one of them yet.
Few players are.

I'll agree in the second point, but not the first.

Hawthorn were running clinics with school kids and most school kids who do not support Hawthorn would probably know of about two Hawthorn players - Crawford and Franklin.

Crawford because he is an excellent player who has been around for years AND has a strong media profile...

Franklin because he is the Hawthorn player that gets the most media attention and hype these days.

Its all about the marketing, lads.

Franklin is the one with the profile, hence he is the one that most intrigues and attracts the punters, hence he is the one sponsors want on deck, hence he is the one the club ensures is on deck.

Be fair here ck, there have hardly been any stories out there of how disappointed bf was that he couldn't play. And I haven't slagged off any player who has said he wanted to play - far, far from it. So perhaps making predictions about what I would or wouldn't say is an area you are lacking expertise in.

That said, if HFC is responsible for this little prank, then it is very poor form. Selfish in the least. A bit rich for you to keep playing this "can't make the player responsible AND can't make the club responsible". Somebody at HFC has their values wrong on this one, just imho.

Well, given a good number of players didn't play, I guess I was also remiss in missing the deluge of media apologies that were given by all these players?

Only Hawthorn players should have to do that. :police:

Oh geez, ck. You are driving me mental here. You guys should just change your name to the teflon hawks and be done with it then. I'va prattled enough on this one. You should apply to be media marketing manager - although I have a feeling you are doing that job for John Howard already! Enjoy the season!
