There's a nice story in the HeraldSun today how every new player drafted to the Swans goes though an induction process that includes watching a video images (some black and white) of Swans legends exposing them to the "spirit of the Bloods".

It's great the history of the club is kept alive like that.

I was just thinking about a phone conversation with Tommy Hafey after he'd just got back from dropping a present off at the club to congratulate Cogs on his b&f win. Tommy told me other than to shake his hand in a line he'd never met Cogs. I felt it sad that in his unassuming way he just dropped the gift off rather than presenting it to Mark in person.

How good would it be if every year the new players drafted to RFC had a meeting with Tommy. No other living person could explain our proud history and the absolute passion and respect that has to be given to our jumper as well as Tommy could.

The kids coming through, like my kids, have never really known Richmond to be successful. Maybe it's in their heads that's just the way things are.

I reckon a talk with Tommy would give the kids a new sense of responsibility to always give 100% to ensure the RFC becomes a force to be reckoned with again.

He'd have to be the most loved and respected Tiger alive. :hearton

great idea rosy when are you going to make it happen lol.l still egt tingles all over my body even when l read something about tommy.it would be an awesome experience for a 17 or 18 year old.

Definitely agree Rosy.  Tommy is an inspiration to the club and we all admire him.

I love listening to him on the ABC...no pretentions, just lots of wisdom and one-eyed love of the Tigers.

Spot on, it's not only about the 1%'s on the field, it about the little things off field that also counts.

Who know's Rosy, maybe Lid's was spewing when he found out Tommy had come but couldn't stick around.

Great idea Rosy and is surely worth incorporating into the mentor programme.

Ideally the mentor programme would commence on draft day at CC's BBQ !

Just a few years ago I heard an interview with a Tiger Recruit who spoke about all the "Old farts" who used to hang around all the time and talk about the "Tigers of Old"

The recruit's thoughts were that he wanted to create his own history and not have to live in the shadows of 1967.

There is a lot in this statement that annoys me, but a lot that rings true aswell,

T shirt Tommy is an absolute legend who probably recognizes the pressures on the "Tigers of Present" and has rightly given Cogs his space. It is now upto Cogs to make the next move, and as an up and coming Tiger leader, I am sure that he will.
