injuries?? / Nathan Brown [Merged]

When did Richo miss a season with his foot? With an injury such as Nathan's what is the expected recovery time needed. ANd, how much time would have elapsed when round 1 is due to start??

In 2000 he played 3 games before being unable to continue and then came back to play 22 out of 25 in 2001 his only finals year.
Brown played 10 games this year so round 1 would be about 40 weeks after the injury ocurred
Recovery time ?? needs a medical answer

The talk about Nathan being on track for round one is all just a huge marketing exercise.
The advice Richmond & Brown received in June this year (from Voss & Snell), was to take your time.
Why hurry this guy back...give him 14 months to recover...infact...make 2006 a no Brown show !
I'd prefer Nathan playing football with confidence & skill, not apprehensive & fumbling !

Nathan sounded quite positive in the article. Also good to see the treadmill bought with the money from the Coca Cola promotion.

The words coming from the man himself is good news. Happy to hear this from him instead of club officials.

I actually got to meet and speak with Browny up in Noosa one morning during the week.
He said he had just had a run and felt fine. While appearing to be fit,he did walk with a slight limp.Im no doctor, but seeing an athlete walking with a limp saying his leg is 'great' and 'feeling fine' doesn't appear to be all true.
Nice guy though,he started the convesation with me after noticing my RFC members cap.Holidaying with Scott West who he reckons is the ultimate pro.

exactly and why would he have that harness/sling attached to his back if all is fine and running free, that photo in the H/S has given me real doubts :-\

Now that I think about it, it doesnt make much sense. He has to use the harness on the special tredmill so that he is not putting too much weight on his leg, but on the other hand we have him running and jogging around at noosa. ???

I bet he does feel great compared to just after it happened. Probably didn't think he'd be walking around at all. The progress sounds promising.

You will find that he will have quickly graduated from the treadmill with such and injury.  I has a similar injury many years ago and once the leg starts to regain the muscle around the bone, progress comes quite quickly as does confidence.

I limped for a while after, but half of that was psychological, there wasn't actually any pain.

An interesting post by Dr Joe Garra on tigertalk stated that the nerves grow back at about 2.5 cm per month and given the location of the break and where the nerve damage was likely to have occured the numbness in the toes is not unusual at this time.  He stated it will be more important and significant to his recover if can balance on the foot or not.

Said that if he can balance on the foot then the numbness will not effect his ability to play.  I aint no doctor, but he is so I will trust in his words of wisdom.

I thought it was R4 - Freo @ TD. We lost that game by a point. Ahhh 2000 ... Lost to Adelaide there by about 9 points and Sydney by 1 or 2 points ... Finished 9th. Would have won all 3 of those games @ the MCG & made the finals ... Even without Richo.

Anyone tells me it's a good idea for us to play in the television studio is kidding themselves.

That was a heart-breaking end to the season, worse than some of the other near-misses. Coming in to round 21, we played the Swans and in round 22, the Swans played Geelong. All three teams were thereabouts and these two results were critical. The Swans beat us by 1 or 2 points and then went down to Geelong by a similar margin. Sydney wrapped up their spot in the top 8 in round 21 and then Geelong's in round 22.

One goal in each game would have made a huge difference.

Yep, if Super Matt had made the distance with his kick ...

Good to see Brownie in the HSUN on thursday the 27 of Oct.... Interesting to hear that he will play with the rod during the season ala michael voss, just goes to show that people talk sh*t on PRE at times!!
It would be good to get him back in rnd 1 but expectations could be high just like with Gas but brownie has so much skill that he could probarbly get by playing at 60-70% capacity.

HOT OFF THE PRESSES  -  The Noosa News ;D

'Richmond star Nathan Brown says he felt like "an 86 year old man" when he ran his first steps this month following his horrific broken leg in May.

But Brown is now feeling more like his old self - and the oval at Sunshine Beach State School is playing a large part in his road back to full fitness.

Brown will miss the Aussie Football Legends Triathalon next weekend, leaving two days before some of his rivals arrive in Noosa for the event.  Teams are entering from StKilda, Sydney, Geelong, Brisbane, Port Adelaide, Adelaide and Kangaroos.

"A lot of the guys love coming to Noosa.  I'm sure they'll enjoy coming up here, seeing the sun, and strutting around with their shirts off", said Brown  "I don't think i could do a triathalon and then back up two days later for a fitness test", he added, "I'll leave that to the other guys."

Brown has been based at Noosa for the past fortnight with training partner Scott West.  "I've only been back running for three weeks and session by session it's getting easier", Brown said.  I'd been able to do pool and bike sessions but there's no replacement for running", he added.  "I realise I need to do a fair bit of it.  Running is what football is all about.  It's been a different experience teaching yourself how to walk and run again"

Brown said he could not have a better training partner than West and while they have frequented the pool and the oval, they are less keen about heading into the ocean.  "We're a bit wary of the sharks.  We're not overly keen to run into one of them out there," said Brown.

Bet he's been keen to end up at the Rolling Rock nightclub though ;D I'll try an go Browny spotting this arvo - need the run myself :hihi

Is anything on here about Richo's wrist surgery a few weeks ago ? Sorry if there is.

Saw him last week and he's still in a brace.
