PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

I remember at the start of the 04 season Bartel was not in the Geelong senior side. Now im sure most here would remember his first season in 02 he made an exceptional start for a rookie. 03 was not too bad however at the start of 04 he was playing VFL, with certain media critics questioning his pace and therefore his future at AFL level.

However from the midponit of 04 onwards he completley dominated, polling 13 brownlow votes, and going on to have a brilliant 05, whilst 06 was still a good year but a touch quieter.

In 07 he has hit his peak IMO, he has been sensational. IIRC last night they said Bartel has played 107 AFL games. So at the start of 07 he was on around 85 odd.

Whats the ponit of this thread, I suppose im trying to point out a few things

1. Bartel is a clear example of giving players time to develop, both physically and at adjusting to AFL level

2. The Bartel example gives us great hope with players like Deledio,Tambling,Edwards,Foley ect...
