Intresting Thought (Regarding new coaches and the draft)

As you all know we have 2 new coaches at Tigerland in McCrae and Rawlings. I just wanted to know if you think they would have any influence come draft day.

Rawlings played alot of footy down at Tassie with Thorp and particulary Reiwoldt. Im sure that he will tell the club about the boys and if they are available come our dp can his influence get them to Punt Road?

Likewise with McCrae. McCrae will try and sell Proud to us seeing as he coached the Queensland U18 team. With McCrae im sure he know a little bit about some of the unknown Queenslanders which can be used with a 3rd or 4th draft pick. He knows the Queenslanders better than anyone else.

Personally I believe Reiwoldt or Proud are guareenteed to be our first choice and come the later rounds I expect us to pick up a QLDer who McCrae rates highly.

I have my reservations about Rawlings. Maybe I just want to see more ex-tigers back in our system.
But on the other hand its probably healthy to influence's from other sources(even if they are from the VFL).
I just hope we can get some longevity out of the picks in the draft. I dont want any more players who
shine for 1-2 years, get signed on a massive contract then just fall away.
And as long as we dont lose more of those games that we should of won again next year(Freo and Hawks come to mind)
Playing in September has to be the number 1 goal. I'm sick of all this re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-building.

You'd think McCrae would have a fair bit of inside info on the Queenslanders, even for the later picks or potential rookies. It will be good to have his input on this one.

Particularly tapping into the Qld market TOT70;

But, I would go one step further. For several years now, Miller has been very keen to introduce some Brisbane influence into the RFC. We failed to get Copeland and with Morrison, we simply failed again. This time, maybe Miller got his man.

Personally, the appointment of McRae (and the qualites he brings to Punt Rd) is positive. But, at the same token, it clearly illustrates where we sit in terms of re emerging as a force  - There are many hard yards still required.

Agree. But at least the hard yards are being done, for the firts time in a very long time.

Things definately on the improve at rfc. Extra coaches, million dollar profit, Wallace and miller doing their job. Now a full list of rookies and we may be competing a bit closer to the interstate teams. I said a bit.

Skills would you mind explaining that for me please. I don't understand what appointing Craig clearly illustrates in regard to where we sit in in terms of re-emerging as a force.

He may mean getting an extra coach 4 a start, but also one that knows all the under 18 kids in Queensland having coached them.It broadens our tenticles tapping into another junior base in australia. Hope i didn't butt in rosy.

Not at all richo and I understand what you say but I still don't get Skill's specific comment about Craig's appointment giving a clear indication. :-[ I agree with the comment that there are many hard yards still required but at least we're on the track now.

Re-emerging as a force simply means, playing finals on a regular basis & having a playing list that can honestly have a tilt at the flag. At the moment, both of these area's are still sadly lacking at the RFC.

McRae brings two successful ingrediants to the club; A triple premiership player in the modern era and invaluable knowledge gained under the success of Leigh Matthews.

Wallace is a good coach, in touch with the modern game. Appointing staff like McRae, will provide Richmond with short & long term benefits. Craig's recent experience working with U18 footballer's will assist our development of juniors. His successful playing career will consolidate & strengthen our position both on & off-field.

Miller's ongoing review of the football department may have recently discovered, the likes of Wallace, Royal & King may be healthy in the recovery process of our club. But, the appointment of a Craig McRae may assist our club re-emerging as a force.

Obviously TW sees something in Rawlings that will help the team.
Unless these ex-tigers are from the 70's or the 1980 team, why would you want to see more of them back? To recreate that winning culture we've had in that last 20 years? Whilst the notion of bringing back ex-players we all loved and respected gives us that warm, fuzzy feeling, the truth is that these players had been poorly coached and not experienced in playing in champion teams.
As an aside, I read an interesting article about Mark Harvey going to Freo and addressing the players. He basically went through each player and told them how highly (or should that be poorly) they were thought of at Essendon. He basically ripped them to shreds, but the players finally faced some home truths.

Absoulutley wrapped we got McRae, fits the bill beutifully an of course he is an old Tiger,Could neally garuntee we will get at least 1 QLDer in the draft
