I lived in ireland for some time and watched alot the irish game, there are some quality footballers over there that i rekon richmond should be looking at recruit .

We need a ruckman in this draft no doubt about it, as much as the Irish players so far have played good footy, i think the local kids are better.

Yeah i agree in a way, there have been a couple of good Irish players in the AFL so far, i just dont think the RFC will do it.

theres two brothers whom play for county kerry same county as taigh kennelly is from, ones a full back and the other a midfielder there guns over there. I know its a different game and stuff but i rekon these two brothers at the same club could do well.

We don't have scouts at TAC or interstate junior games so I don't see them getting one to Ireland.

I don't doubt there are some talented sportsmen who would be suited to our game had they learned the sport as kids. The question is how likely they are to be able to make the transition. A few have picked it up pretty well though:

Player                         Cb Gms Year Dft
Stynes, Jim                   Me 264 1985 -
Wight, Sean                  Me 150 1983 -
Kennelly, Tadhg              Sy 128 2000 R
O'hAilpin, Setanta            Ca 18 2004 R
Begley, Colm Br 8 2006 R
McNicholl, Dermot            St 3   1988 N
Stynes, Brian                Me 2   1988 N
Quigley, Brendan              Br 0   2006 R
O'hAilpin, Aisake            Ca 0   2005 R
O'Mahony, Declan              Sy 0   2003 R
Walsh, Nicholas              Me 0   2002 R
Devine, Kevin                Me 0   2001 R

Tohill, Anthony              Me 0   1989 N
Corkery, Colin                Ca 0   1989 N
McManamon, Colum              Ge 0   1989 N
Grehan, Thomas                Me 0   1988 N

Not meant to be an exhaustive list, there may be others.

Gee I really agree. More Kenneally and Stynes than OHailpin though. These boys always have heart, are chirpy and a few Paddies with courage would go a long way at Tigerland.

Also, a success story from someone of African background is a matter of when, not if. It's just a matter of who is astute enough to be the first

Begley looks good for how long he has been playing the game. Its worth a look, but we wouldnt have the money to find the right one over there.

On the African thing, I raised it with Miller once but he doesnt seem too interested in the idea. So I doubt we will see any Irish or South African sourced recruits at Punt rd. any time soon.
Personally I think that shows a huge lack of foresight. It is things like this, that we as a club need to be pro-active on.
Essendon Freo Scumwood and 1 other team already have adopted clubs in South Africa. The clubs supply them jumpers, send people over for clinics and I would think, more than likely, that they have someone getting the better kids into their respective sponsored sides.

In less than 10 years we will have South Africans playing in the AFL IMO.

yer true i agree with you we should look outside the norm , the begley chap seems to be fitting in well
and these two brothers from kerry imo could do just as well, they both have good bursts of pace and especially the elder of the two the full back has a good set of hands , can read the game well, and always seem to have ease at evading tackles and time on the ball, and in ireland they still play for the jumper and county which in turn i think gives a good mentality and give all for the club.

They won't take a professional on a volunteer basis. Lack of funding shouldn't matter in that case.
