Is Darren Gaspar the best full back we've had for the past 27 years?

Turner or Duncan beat him IMO.

Don't forget Turner gave Dunstall a few floggings (only 3 goals from 3 consecutive games at one point from memory) and Duncan used to beat Carey regularly. They were probably the two best forwards in their respective eras.

G.Ablett, tony lockett were pretty handy. safe to say ablett kicked that many goals against us that they wouldve all been on scotty turner

Lockett maybe but I doubt he would have played on Ablett. TBH, I can't remember. The dunstall stat stays in my mind because previously he had kciked a bag of about 17 against us.

many of those 17 were kicked on scotty, his record later against dunstall was obv pretty good.
dunstall kicked 111 of his 1254 goals against us. he had a career ave of 4.7 goals p/g yet ave 5.6 and kicked 5+ 11 times against us.

how could u doubt he played on ablett, he was geelongs #1 fwd and scotty was our #1 backman. gary ablett kicked a total of 117 of 1030 career goals against us at 5.9 per game yet his career ave was 4.2 goals p/g. 12 bags of 5+ and 4 bags of 10+ his best being 14.

lockett was the worst of 3 kicking 89 goals in total of his 1360. he was still above his career ave however of 4.8 goals p/g averaging 5.2 goals p/g against us.

these blokes all played at the same time as scotty turner and he surely played enough on them to justify that they gave him a bath on several occassions.

I think Phil Egan, Gary Frangalas, Paul Barlow and Craig Smith have had a crack on Ablett hence the heavy scoring against us.

Gary Frangalas,we got him in his twilight.

I remember the day Yablett and Gav Exell got hold of us and tore the tiges a new one before half time, then came out and tore a second new one after half time.

Geez no one assasinated the Tigers like the great G Ablett, geez that bloke killed us on his own.

Apart from Scott Turner, you'd have to go back to Francis Bourke in the 80 premiership to really find anybody else worth mentioning as a Richmond fullback.

Agree on Francis Bourke but this was at the very end of his career and probably just makes the 27 years!

Hey did we all forget Greg Straghan and Brian Leys ...

Didn't Wayne Peters line up on Ablett on the wing the day he kicked 14?

Did Peters actually play a game did he :hihi ... i cant remember him playing i always remember him injured.

The day that Phil Egan played on Gary Ablett, I remember Egan taking a hanger on Gazza early in the game & the crowd went nuts...then Gary took an even better hanger on Phil, & then proceeded to kick 4 or 5 on him in a quarter.... the crowd was pretty quiet after that.

I was extremely disappointed when I saw Brad Gwilliam go down in Adelaide. Thought he was playing really good footy at FB but never played again.

And Scotty "Lorena" Turner definitely played on Ablett. I remember one game at Kardinia, it was piddling down all day and Lorena was far and away our best player as he kept Ablett to 7.7.

Plus my mate Bigster got a used, signed Scotty Turner long sleeved jumper at an end of season auction for about $40 ::) :-X

Oh yeah and Gaspar is still seriously underrated as a footballer and was by far our best FB for a long time. His kicking was also underrated. He was a good set shot for goal, just don't ask him to kick it on the run.

Greg Strachan

Aah, Greg Strachan - I was going to mention him.. One of my earliest memories of going to Richmond games in the 80s was of bagging out Strachan.. I seem to recall him being absolutely shocking...

Did Alan Martello fill that spot for a while?

Hell we even recruited Daryl Sutton.

This must have been around 1983.

didnt we get McCormack from Collingwood along with Stewart.

Ablett lined up on the wing at the start of the day but played mostly in the forward line that day. Even though we were smashed it was great to see Ablett play that day. He did such amazing things. Was a better performance than Dunstall's

I agree. One of the most amazing games I've seen. He played on Johnny Manton for a while didn't he? :hihi
