i dont think he's overrated. sure id like to see some more meaningful possies, but he is a star in the making.
I don't think Lids is overrated currently but there's no doubt future expectations are high.
His first season was fantastic and that definately lifted expectations this season. Understandibly so.
But whether Lids truly becomes a superstar in the Judd, Hird, Voss etc. category is yet to be seen. There's a lot of work ahead of him and those comparisons are rightly a long way off yet. Yes you can see the "potential" but the reality is it may not happen.
David C has been harping on about this for a while and I'm coming around to that way of thinking.
We can't as a club be held to ransom by a player's "potential", no matter how much they seem to have.
I'm not pointing the finger at Deledio but we've seen this time & time again at the RFC.
One season wonders who don't go onto to greater heights. In Lids case I have little doubt he'll be a player, but just how good is the question.
Players should only be given star status after at least two outstanding & consistant seasons.
Unfortunately at Richmond, we are so desperate to find players of elite quality that after one season we often brand them as "potential" superstars and sign them to lucrative long term contracts.
Often the reality is they are just standouts in an ordinary Richmond side and their value at league level is not as high as perceived.
Two seasons of consistant performance should be the benchmark for rewarded performance.
Two year contracts should be the maximum offered also.
If the player thinks they can get a better deal elsewhere so be it and if they can then good luck to them.
Time for a shift in thinking I think.
