Two fast tall defenders and we would be top 4 material.
I would kill to have Glass and Hunter at the Tigers.

Nothing special about Glass & Hunter. 2 years ago most WC supporters were asking for them to be traded. Only those who knew better were smart enough to sit and wait for them to arrive. Both Glass & Hunter have just turned 24yo and have arrived. Mind you, it took 5-6 years of waiting.

Point is, the talls that we pick in 2006, we'll probably have to wait a similar amount of time for. That's why I wanted talls back in 2004. Talls in 2004 could have been ready by 2010. Talls in 2006 won't be ready till 2012. Mediums take about 4 years, and smalls only take a couple of years.

The perfect timing would have been:
Talls - 2004, arrival time 2010.
Mediums - 2005, arrival time 2009.
Smalls - 2006, arrival time 2008.

We did it arse about tit. I'm not quite sure how we'll turn out, but I'm pretty sure that if we pick up some top talls this draft, they should arrive about 2012. Of course if we don't go for talls this year, and go for midfielders again, the lag time will be even longer.

Mind you, if we don't pick up top talls at all, well, we just won't be a top side. We'll just be one of those sides that look like they might do something but never does.

I think we've seen enough of that.
Very valid points Phantom (as always) we also holding on to players that are past it or not going to make it too long Like Gas ,Kellaway, Hyde Tiva...esp Stafford ?

Anyway I way with around 3-4 years development time for talls we should also be looking out for talls in the VFL ,SNAFL,WAFL etc that were missed in the last few drafts that are deveoping well like Scott Mayer for example at Willy (we should have picked him up last draft ) as late pics for us ..they can slot into the side quickly .
Also of course using early draft pics on young talls and a classy Midfielder

i am not sure what you are getting at.
we did take talls in 2004 phantom

mc guane, limbach, pattison, thursfield (rookie), moore was elevated in 2004, and we picked up knobel and simmonds.

is that not enough?

Well said Cogs, haven't said anything myself as player ridicule and name calling is not my scene. I support who's wearing the Black & Yellow, yes there has to be more astute reruitment & the delistment of current players WHEN IT CAN BE DONE'will take some time but it will happen, injuries will at least give others the oppurtunity to show what they've got.. 2 and 6 is a fair call, as is the finals!
'Go Tiges ' :emblem :thumbsup

I have to admit with our defence going down to injury town I also am hoping Moore is soon available. He is tall and I haven't forgotten the Richmond olympics where he was consistently one of the fastest players in the side. Just because he is very young, hasn't played too many games, is probably unfit due to his recent injury, hasn't proved himself at the highest level and isn't duee back for two weeks anyway hasn't damaged my optimism. Although my realism has taken a bit of a battering.

I wish you were right about Moore - but he gets injured when he sneezes it seems. Was an early supporter of his - he showed early glimpses, but I'm now not holding my breathe he'll save our dwindling backline. We might have to rely on Knobel and the Staff in the ruck and let Simmo handle CHB.

Cogs24 - love your club ethic! If we still had Thirsty and (to a lesser extent) Schulz for treency bit of depth, I might just jump on your bandwagon, but the club talent pool is worse off this year than last year in my opinion, and while our best is good enough at times, our worst is very bad - and that is what makes me question season 2006. It did in January and it still does.

Wishing in hope - but living in reality. Go Tiges - get an education for theseasons ahead!

Well we lost to the Eagles by 46 points at Subiaco. We aren't the first and won't be the last to experience that.

Whilst we made mistakes and were exposed in a few areas the world is not lost.

What I liked was the fact that we were prepared to try and take them head on and did reasonably well in the first half. Yep some costly turnovers cost us, but I'd rather see those turnover occur whilst we are trying to create and run. Much better than going defensive for an honourable loss as we did so often under Frawley.

manypredicted we would come out and try and shut the game down, but we didn't and it surprise many, probably none more than the Eagles, but we had some kids out their who took it up to them on their patch for a half at least.

I would much prefer to see us lose whilst still trying to implement a plan rather than simply shut a game down for an honourable loss.

We have finally recruited with a little long term vision that will hopefully bear fruit. It won't happen over tonight, but we have set a direction that is far better than anything we have seen for a long time at Tigerland.

Couple of things I really hated watching on Saturday night was the tendency to coral players when they could have applied direct pressure by tackling the ball carrier rather than giving them time and space to set up and dish off. A couple of players really could have set the tone but chose to take short steps and coral the player rather than deliver a Hammil type tackle which would have certainly got a few eagles thinking.

The second thing that annoyed me was the number of players who chose to spectate at the contest in defense and wait for someone else to make the contest. Several times all watched an Eagles player almost take an uncontested mark while they waited for someone else to contest and spoil.

Wont happen for another 5 years if we are lucky, get a grip on reality we are a poor team like stkilda was 15 years ago, so at least there is hope

Yep but the Saints built up with quality draft picks hhhhmmmm

Riewoldt

Koszitzckhe

Ball

Del Santo

Hayes

MacGuire

thats 3 quality gun midfielders and 3 gun talls all of which we have not done with 2 opportunities at the bottom
