Is he saying what I think he is saying?

the way i see it is that terry has set the criteria for an extension on his contract, this is making the finals next season. the way i see it making the finals next season is not enough 14-15 wins should be the criteria as a natural progression of where we should be.

wallace has had a hand in our drafting hicups, tambling and danny were his prefered choices in his first draft.
jon in his second and mcmahon in his fourth. now terry can spin till the cows come home about mcmahon but the fact remains is that he was drafted for his kicking skills and they have proven to be only good skills not great as we were lead to belive .

eventualy like grant at st kilda when you make enough calls as a coach eventualy you will be held accountable for them. terry next season the time for spin has past deliver the results or move on.

Confident? Based on what Ian?
You don't think that the journos would do the same thing in that instance to create conflict/interest when they have got form elsewhere?

Ill be honest - If the price is right (and im willing to dish our pick 8 ), I want Kerr.

I doubt it will happen though....but if you think Wallace wont go for it - well he did chase a 25yr old flanker for a top 20 pick.

Have to disagree. I still think we are at least 5yrs away from a serious go at the flag. I say this because of the loss of Richo, Brown, Simmonds and so on that we will lose over the next couple of years.

Kerr is a superstar, but the time to grab a player like that is when we are on the verge of being genuine contenders - not now. He will cost a first round pick at least and we should continue to develop our own list first.

Wallet is lobbying in the media. But if the heartland is here at PRE (and I reckon we're a fair representation) nobody is buying.

Yeah, I had a sick feeling when I read TW comments about being locked and loaded. Had spud written all over it. another case of premature premiership threat interpretion. I am encouraged by the bipartisan support (bright, dark, together as one) for draft-based development over top-up trades for ready-made players expressed in this thread. Yeah, I'd like Kerr, if you got him for Pettifer and Pick 78, but thats not gonna happen is it? We would pay over the odds, which is going to be high to start with. I think the message is clear, and Marsh (from what PRE'ers are saying) is on the money, and has his hand firmly on the development tiller. :clap

Unbeleivable. I'm stunned by this.

Long way to go in keeping on the same path we're on, keep drafting, keep jettisoning overrated flankers, not many to go now.

Keep drafting MINIMUM 4 picks, and rounds 1 and 2 in that, bloody minimum.

If Wallace thinks he can trade our top picks and trade for top-ups, sack him.

You would think we learnt our lesson last year.

I would be devastated if we traded Pick 2 last year for Judd and Cotchin was running around for WCE.

I can't wait for 5 years when Cotchin is entering his prime and Judd is his million dollar patsy.

Top post!!!

Cant believe he is talking so much crap. Whoever thinks we are almost there to challenge for the flag is as delusional as the selfish one. Thank god Miller is gone. No doubt he would have traded all our picks to grab Kerr. Need another 2 years of rebuilding before we can honestly say we are ready.

At least Spud had the decency to take us to a preliminary final before he set about destroying the place. Plough is doing a good job of doing it before he even makes it into the top half of the ladder.

The thing I find amusing is that Wallace has built this list over 4 years, if he is saying it still needs topping up now then effectively he has not delievered what he has promised to 4 years ago. So much for also saying he would never trade a 1st Rd pick during his time with us.

"Wallace admits failure and requests payout" should have been the headline.

Before the game March said on MMM that Wallace will be judged in July next year on the DEVELOPMENT OF THE LIST. He mentioned White as a positive example.

At games end, Wallace has said we need to trade for players to go forward and this is up to the Board to spend the money.

To me this means Wallace does not think his development of the list is sufficient to ensure continued improvement and thus his contract extension.

That is correct.

Look at the list its unbalanced lacks depth and is still loaded with mediocrity.

Of course it aint ready ...................... its far from being in a state to get the results that will keep Wallet his job.

Round 8 ish will tell the tale in 09 and if the tigers arent going to great the rumbling will start.

The bottom line is that the Tigers MUST make finals next year for Wallet to stay hence his keenes to grab a Kerr for a top up instead of risking putting another 7 kids on the list which could well cost him his job.

I for one am sick of hearing about "five year plans" and "not our time" and "we are not ready" and "J curves" or "bell curves" or whatever they are called.

You win with what you have. You instill strange concepts like sacrifice, desire, selflessness, hardness, resiliance, competetiveness, mateship, teamwork, courage and initiative in whatever cattle you have. They all come from the top 50 odd kids in the country. They can all play for crying out load. Take the best you can get on a yearly basis and mould them. Geelong didn't sit on the bottom for 6 years before they suddenly saw success.

Get kids or get Kerr based on the best player for the Tigers in the next few years. Don't recruit on the basis of having good players in 5 years time. It is a losers mindset that we need to break at Richmond. We had the same people talking about five year plans five ears ago and they will still be talking about them in five years time. We have been rebuilding for 25 years ffs!

THANK THE LORD ABOVE!!!

SUPER post!!

All this rubbish ppl are saying about getting ready for our shot in 2011 - what the hell! How does anybody know what 2011 will bring?? Yes we can go on predicting in regards to our core players being a certain age etc...but geez the lions went from a spoon to 3 time premiers in 3yrs!! The pies won the spoon in 1999 and 15th in 2000 - played in 2 GFs 2yrs later!!

If we had of beaten dogs and saints this yr - we would of finished on 13 wins and right now would be 2 wins off a GF spot.

and In The Blood is absolutely correct - its a loser mentality we have and thats why everybody soaks up Wallaces crap about us being ready for 2011. Well lord forbid if we dont win the flag that year.

THe roos, crows, pies, swans - all have pretty average lists. THis competition is more even than what ppl think. Its the culture and the coaching that gets the most of out of the players and THEN its the talent that takes them to the holy grail.

I guarantee you never heard Sheedy, Malthouse, Matthews etc have these ridiculous graphs for predicted success.

What a joke.

Geelong developed their own AND they traded for picks. Ottens, Mooney and Harley to name 3.

They could have traded for a monkey instead of Mooney and the monkey would have still done well (such is the quality of delivery from up the field) but I do take your point. We have to continue to look for quality trades if appropriate (Morton-like).

why are people still getting sucked in by terry setting the criteria for his being kept after next season. making the finals should be not be the criteria the no of wins should be what we judge him on . we have won 11 games this year next season if we dont win at least 14 games we will not have progressed as a club.

this is terry's fifth season i belive 14 games in his fifth season is not unreasonable.

Cheers 8ball. It is a sad joke.

We have some good cattle. Add what we can and push for success as soon as we can. This is a sport. The aim is to win. The most immediate plan is to win as many games as we can next year, not in 5 years. Players don't need to hear rubbish about windows in a couple of years. This talk kills motivation and distracts us as a club from the immediate goals, to win the next battle. We all say footy is played mainly in the head yet PREnders spend all their time worrying about lists and trades when they should be encouraging our players and our club and building their self belief. Success breeds success. We can all help build a winning culture at our club by being more encouraging of our players. You can't win a war when everyone at home is critisising everything you do. Just ask the Yanks.
