PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

Ive been asked the question why do u think Richmond will make the eight so ill try and remember each and every word i said and explain my reasoning in depth behind this comment.

I first said well for starters ur list has to improve from the year before and that doesn’t necessarily mean that the improvement will come from the 5 kids in Reitwoldt, Edwards, Connors, Petersen and Collins that we picked up in the draft, in all honesty they will have little impact, i refer first to our defence with the addition of Polak plus the return of Thursfield and Newman which will surely give us more flexibility and closer checking in defence as Newy and Thursty play that way...

Secondly the forward line will have brownie back (more goals) and when he’s put in the middle his excellent decision making will set up more forward play something we sorely missed last year, *smile* adding another dimension to our forward structure more so than last year something tells me that *smile* will finally show the footy world what he is capable of. Patto with his motor he does cover a lot of ground for a guy in all honesty that looks a bit awkward, he will also cause some trouble on our forward line i can really see this year being another step forward for him and as much as KK (i was against recruiting him) has his detractors he will be a player that could very well sneak under a few peoples guards as Richo, *smile* and Brown will take the best defenders.

Last year Krak was pretty much our sole small forward but with Meyer and ill put hartigan in there pressing for kraks spot it will lead to more competition amongst those 3 and surely it will only benefit the team with no walk ups for that 3rd small position.

In the middle you would have to expect that more improvement will come from lids, Foley, bling and Polo and ill also add howat to that list as for some reason he has been unfairly criticised by a few which is disappointing as all we can do is critique him on his current performances IE: last 5 games of last year he ave 18 possessions, 6 marks and a goal and this preseason has pretty much been in our best players, still learning the caper so yes you would expect further improvement from him as he runs and carries and wants to win the footy.

On the Second year players i think Cleve will continue to develop in the two’s and im not expecting him to make a huge impact in the seniors, it will be another year or 2.

White i believe has shown enough from last year to suggest he could perhaps play the Raines role in defence and by doing this it should free up Raines to play in the Middle at times, now that i would like to see.

Casserly and JON both have class and i think casserly could make the ones in the second half; JON will take another step forward this year but im not expecting him to dominate just looking for more game time which will only help his game.

Ill pick 2 players who could well surprise us all and perhaps play above which some would expect them not to...These 2 players are McGuane and Hartigan.

All in all i see this team being better than last years, yes injuries will and can play a huge part in our ladder positioning and the loss of Cogs is huge but every team loses a player here or there its just when u start losing 5 or 6 players that it really cuts deep.
