Is it worth it?? AFL restricted/full member Richmond club support or

The AFL corrected their mistakes of that year as there was a massive outcry.

They took out the cost of the Grand Final. They then allocated 40% of the seats available to Full members first of the competing teams. usually sold on the Sunday.

Then on Tuesday the remaning 60% plus any left over from the 40% allocation goes on sale for the other Full members. Thus you get a double chance to get a ticket if your tema makes it if you a full member. Should by Thursday there are tickets left, restircted members get to snap up any tickets left.

It has worked perfectly. They did stuff it up that year but its as perfect as can be now. Awesome value.

Here is the allocation of Grand Final tickets from a current email that has just come through the AFL. It reads as follows;

If you only go to RFC games and dont go to finals unless we are in them, the AFL full membership is very poor value. Add to that the $10 or so it costs to take a non AFL member child along with you - compared to $2 in the general reserve. Often I take all three kids with me. If kids, or worse still, guests are not members, it becomes an outrageously expensive day.

In the old days we had reasonable bars overlooking the ground to drink in and had a guaranteed GF ticket for FREE. Over a few year period we were shunted down into the bowels of the stand to have a beer and are now charged $70 or $80 IF we get a ticket.

Last season I let my AFL Richmond club support package go, got a couple of RFC memberships for me and the kids and we havent looked back. We now stop in at Punt Rd for a couple of frothies and a kick of the footy instead of being squashed into that shyte bar down underneath the Southern Stand. The view from up in the new Ponsford stand is fantastic and the facilities 100% better than the AFL members reserve.

Havent quite done the research yet, but I am waiting for the new stands to be totally completed and then I'll look at a RFC family membership with reserved seats. My bet is that it will be much better value than my AFL membership plus whatever it was costing me each week to take the kids. The added bonus is I now sit amongst RFC people. Up in the Southren stand we were often outnumbered many times to one by opposition supporters. I think stats showed that we had one of the lowest number of RFC AFl memberships of all the melb based clubs.

BTW , I also turned down an offer of an MCC membership this year - after waiting for 12 years or so.

I am a restricted AFL member, have been for the past two years. I go to every Richmond game and a couple of others during the year, probably 15-20 games. The main reason I have it is for the finals tickets if Richmond make it, or just to go to the Grand Final. Which I went to last year. I am hoping to do the same this year. I was quoted a waiting period of 10 years to full AFL membership, but this was when the MCG capacity was lower than it is now, so hopefully in the next year or two it will be upgraded to full, just in time for the next Tiger dynasty!!
