Is Jack the new Plapp?

Love Jack, love the enthusiasm, the belief, the damn fact he has a go but if his surname was Rodrigurez i think we know the answer.

He'd be the starting pitcher for the Atlanta Braves??

As soon as supporters saw Plapp take a few Ablett-type leaps during Richmond 2nds games at Punt Road Oval he became the cult hero.

Admittedly I was one of those idiots. ;D

You're not an idiot TF, you just had an opinion and got it wrong.

Many had positive opinions on Wallass and got it wrong, you wouldn't call them idiots.

you watch jack when he has a big body knows it and struts his stuff. he is all about confidence and arrogance
Just saw some footage of Jack getting some one on one tutelage from Dermott Brereton.
If nothing else, he can certainly teach him plenty about strutting, confidence and arrogance.

The same could be said about Tom Hawkins but Geelong seem to have the patience we lack!! Kid is only 20-21 and we expect him to dominate games like Carey. Needs another 2 years of body and game development to make a real mark on the competition. That and a style that actually sees our fwds utilised properly, rather than having to make 20 leads before having the ball kicked short, high and left or right of the target.

I reckon you're overstating things just a tad, no-one excepts him to dominate like Carey in fact most of the criticism seems aimed at the coaches for how they leave him as the only tall forward. As for Hawkins he is copping plenty of criticism and justifiably so given that the fact that he has shown SFA. If Jack was playing as badly as Hawkins you'd be seeing a lot more fire on here about him.

Reiwoldt has done remarkably well considering that he has only spent 2 1/2 years on the Tiger list.

He serves as an example to all Tiger juniors.

With a topic title of Is Jack the new Plapp?, i don't quite understand how you see most of Jack's criticism being aimed at the coaches for playing him as the only tall fwd. My point is that we place to much pressure and expectations on our youngsters, especially our KPP. Tell me how many young KPP players have come into the competition and dominated games in their first 2-3 years. Might be a handful if that. Jack, to his credit has actually managed to dominate a few games for us, and if not for his bad kicking could easily have bags of 5-6 against his name on many occassions. The kid is developing fine and once he fills out and gains more experience he will be able to dominate on a more consistent basis. Topics like these are absulte crap!!

jack has been really good in a crap side, he is young and looks like he loves playing for the club. im happy him to stay as long as likes, plapp was crapp, one year wonder that left for cash, are you listening dedelido...

Remember too that Reiwoldt is still younger, now, than Plapp in his 1st year playing senior footy with Richmond, just.

Plapp's first year was marginally better than Reiwoldt's, as I read it.
But Reiwoldt was 18yo in his first year,
Plapp was 20/21yo in his first year.

Jack seems to have one major issue, his kicking for goal. Once he gets that fixed up he will be the forward the supporters want. At his age this can be fixed, but I hope that he's given some assistance on this front unlike Richo who never got it fixed and because of it never became the player he should have been. I also think Jack could put some weight on, but again I think that will come with age as his body matures.
I'm not sure where the Plapp comparison came from. Plapp had 2 good games when he started, but didn't do a lot else after that. Riewoldt has already outstripped the former cult hero.

he looked to improve his technique and was much more comfortable in kicking for goal even though his output didn't reflect it.

Jacks kicking is letting him down a touch at the moment, but he is one of the smartest footballers we have had on the list for years.
He's still two preseasons away from being fully developed physically, and needs to ensure he works a tad harder at times instead of relying on his footy nous.
Jack and Cotchy would be the two players I'm least worried about on the entire list as far as football ability is concerned.

Other than his red (ish) hair, dont really see what the drama is with JR on the field. Yeah, his set shots are garbage this year and he missed a few last year, but otherwise and as I've said before, he's a pup playing the most difficult position on the ground and in a crap team too. His set shot technique is not one that's grossly flawed. Can see that being ok in long run.

He's doing everything else reasonably well under duress. We have bigger on-field issues with our blokes.

I remember sitting in the Watsonia RSL drinking handles telling a Bomber supporter that Plapp would be better than Lloyd! :theyareontome

Dermott was talking about it on SEN tonight.... Spoke highly of Jack and thought he had a great pair of hands...
He also said that there was plenty of young talent at Richmond and they weren't far off....Quite impressed with the young forwards.... Said that they just needed the right coaching....
