The best thing about this year is that there's a number of players who have really improved.
Kelvin's right up there, but so is Brett Deledio--who has taken a real leap forward, Matty White and Jay Shultz who is now a quality tall defender.
Richard Tambling and Jack Riewoldt have really improved this year, though they've slipped the past few weeks.
And Richo. Who could imagine a player reinventing themselves so brilliantly at 33?
Others have stalled: esp Jake King (oppositions have worked him out; they had to, he was so dynamic for us).
But the new depth at the club means that players like Jackson, Polak, Tivendale, Pettifer and Joel could be taken back to Coburg to recover their confidence and ability and restructure their role in the team and their playing style.
I just think that stalling and not appearing to improve is what happens in any area of life. How many times have we had the wailing and gnashing of teeth at Deledio's apparent failure to become the next Chris Judd? But all the time he was building his experience, and maybe too learning how to play sore or a little injured.
We also saw it with Geelong. Were they a bunch of duds? It sure looked like that in 2006.
