I always welcome differing views. As long as these are expressed civilly.

You will gets views on these mediums whether you welcome them or not, both civil and some decidedly unso. :hihi

I hope you considered mine civil, no disrespect was intended. As I said, just strongly disagree.

Well actually you are agreeing with me. ;) I never said anything to the contrary.

However I also agree with you, sure there are a lot of blind bagging of issues due to the clubs and personalities.

I'm not guilty of that with Eddie and Collingwood. I don't hate Collingwood really, I'm indifferent to them and consider Eddie loosing the plot when I used to respect him, but I am emotionless in my views of them.

Carlton, sure, I am irrational when it comes to them. I make no apologies for that. >:D

What you might consider irrational, I'm sure most of us would consider you rational when it comes to them ;D

Most truthful post in this thread so far :)

Maybe i misunderstood mate given what you quoted and your first word lol My fault.

It just got me how many posts mention "Eddie" "Collingwood" etc

I think there are times when certain characters deserve to be considered a "Legend" of their chosen field even if they don't tick all the boxes. Lou is one of those. From as early as I can remember, when ever I saw Lou on TV I automatically knew is was something to do with Football. In saying that though, I think he has damaged his brand a bit by demanding legend status, but he is a Collingwood captain so I guess that sort of self-importance should be expected.

Sheedy is another who I think fits into the same category. Would he make Legend status as a Player ? Probably not. But add in his coaching and again the fact that he is one of the faces of Aussie Rules and his contribution to the game, be it Internationals against the whining Irish, the work to get Dreamtime at the G going, and even his attempt to include martians as part of the AFL community, and Sheeds would deserve Legend status for reasons other than his playing.

The 'boxes' are there for a reason and the reason is that you dilute the importance of such awards if you have too many 'boxes.'

It also stops the committee being too subjective.

The criteria are there and should be abided by.

if lou was never in the media no one would ever mention his name in regard to being a legend.

it`s typical eddie and collingwood arrogance that they are asking for lou to be included as a legend of the game and he`s not even in their team of the century.

I voted No.

Lou is, in many ways, a legend of Aussie Rules. This is not a question of his contribution to the game.

He doesn't satisfy the criteria, so end of story.

Should we also change the rules and give him a Brownlow?

I'm unsure, but I think Lou Richards is a legend in his own right. He is well respected by all people in the football world, but putting him as a legend because of off field success will open a pandoras box for people like 'Robo' getting their way into the legend status.

Maybe a seperate honour should be given to Lou, you look at Martin Tyler and Ray Warren to see what impact they have on the sport they commentate. Anyone who gets a mention from the 12th man deserves credit where its due too.

He is a legend, but not a hall of fame legend.

Like the lifetime achievement award he was offered but he knocked back because he thinks he should be a Legend?

Reading through this thread I wonder if some people are confusing the word Icon with Legend?
