Is richo in career best form at the moment???

I think Sheeds would be having a few sleepless nights at the moment over richo. They have no-one to go with him apart from perhaps fletcher or bradley.

Matty's work rate and one percenters are exceptional.  He's not just plonked there to kick goals this year and I'd say he's right up there with his best form the last couple of weeks.  A real team player. :clap

Mike Sheahan on "On the Couch" last night said exactly the same this as the title of my thread. He also thinks Richo is playing better now than he's ever played and is a more team oriented player.

I thought of this thread when Mike mentioned that, 'On the couch', well done iitb.

Cheers oh prettiest one!!! :beer

would be a real surprise if fletcher gets the job as he only plays out of the goal square now days - seems to be a strategy set in concrete - if richo gets on top expect to see lucas moved back

Reckon they will go with Bradley & Fletcher backup option.

If Johnno doesn't play this week, is Richo a chance for the captaincy? Be a good opportunity to display his newfound maturity.

That was 98.  I plonked him for the Brownlow.  He had a minimum 22 votes by my calculations, umpies didn't agree.

Incorrect. It was 1999 when he was in Brownlow medal form. Got injured late in the year and missed the last few games.

Ended up getting around 15 Brownlow votes from memory and was figuring prominently until he was injured.

I stand corrected, 99 it was. Still can't beleive he only got 15 votes, he absolutely dominated 7 games, played very well in 3 or 4 others. Like I said, I had him down for 22 votes MInimum. Robbed.

I was wondering if anyone has any stats on Richo's 3 vote brownlow performances over his entire career? Just off the top of my head I would say he's probably received 20+ BOG's and I would say that we have won every game where this has occured.

Didnt Richo kick 90 odd the year after his reco??

Dont know about career best form but the boy is absoluetly busting himself , and i just wish both he and the side would get more reward for his outstanding efforts and energy expediture.

Yeah, I think it was 91 in 1996, he kicked 6 against the Dons in his first game back.

He was in career best form in 96 as stated. Yet has adapted to become a more complete player in 06. Ten years later, where he has learnt how to put in 3rd and 4th efforts.

His goal kicking was on song at the start of 95 and in 96, but even though he hasnt kicked his 5-6 per game this year, his marking and contests have been better than ever.

The game does rely on him if he wants it to. He is a crucial player to the side and when he puts in 3rd and 4th efforts, opposition supporters wont give him *smile* for his kicking. Yes his kicking was bad on Friday night, but his efforts around the ground made up for it. He went to dive for a smother and took the legs out of the carlton opponent, even though he didnt smother that was a sign of determination.

I just hope he can keep it up. Because he is in B&F form so far.

Pretty close. Richo has recieved 18 BOG's in his career. His first came in Rd 1 1994 against the doggies when he kicked 8.1 in a team that went down by 2pts.
The remaining 17 were all from winning games. The point is made that a high proportion of BOG's come from winning sides so he would not be considered unusual in this regard.

Thanks Bill,
I'm guessing he'll achieve the 20 this year given his last 2 performances, with regards to Richmond winning the games that he's polled 3 votes, there can be no doubt that this is usually the case but I was thinking of the times where Cogs or Knights got the votes and we lost. Other occasions that come to mind were Frangalas gettting 3 at Geelong and Hall getting 3 in Sydney.

Nice attempt to disguise the light shining from your ears Clawasaurus ;D

Richo's form (so far) may not be better than '96 when he came back from his knee and kicked i think 92 or 95 goals. He could have easily kicked 100 that year.

He played mainly as a half forward licence to roam.

The thing that really stands out over that year and previous years has been his second and third efforts. This is typified by his chase down and gathering off a handball which resulted in a goal of Voss up at the Gabba and last week against Carlton.

This is something that Richo of the past wouldnt do. His refusal to chase his opponent running away was terrible and often frustrating.

He is obviously not kicking his bag of goals(he could have last week kicked 10_) but what he is doing late in his career was not what he was doing for so long in his career(chasing, tackling, second/third efforts)

Keep it going big fella

What it does it shows the young kids the way and they follow his lead. It becomes infectious.
