Yes fellow ferals, this is a very vexing question to me....
In an age of ever increasing science, phsycology, and advanced training techniques, itseems to me that the essence of excellence and achievement at the highest level is lost in the theories, and an over-emphasis on being too structured in the coaching of certain teams.
Perhaps natural instinctive football as Don scott used to espouse is the key in not only delivering the goods at the most crucial stage of play, but developing positive sense of reaction. An example of this issue is the bewildering sight of richo blowing it from 10 metres out,yet how many times have we seen him kicking clutch goals from over 50 metres out without thinking about it?As always, looking foward to your opinions on this....

P.S.Yes,its me rosy...I,m a little more cultured in this post,eh! :hihi

Glad you told us that nitro. Was about to swab you. :rofl

There is a lot of rocket science and planning and rules. I think the best footy is played when it's fun and natural instincts kick in.

Although footy is a big $$ business it's still a game that should be enjoyable to play.

There is a funny story, probably made up, about David Parkin and one of his early pre-season training sessions when he first started coaching. He gathered the troops together and explained the drill he wanted them to do. It was basically circle work but all the balls were marked with different colours. If you caught a red on , you had to kick it left foot, a green one meant hand ball with right hand, blue meant kick right foot and so on. Every colour required a different type of disposal.

Easy!

Nothing but chaos followed!!!!!

Considering we've only been using rocket science for 10-11 months, it's a bit hard to judge yet.

I'm pretty sure the rocket science will work.

If rocket science was 'tried' to be implemented over the last 20 odd years at the RFC, I can tell you which planet they have been landing on, year after year. :hihi

We as a a club can't answer that because we haven't tried it, till the new era was ushered in last year.

Neil Daniher was being interviewed by KB on SEN today. paraphrasing here

"So Collingwood went to the Grand Canyon, and St Kilda went to China, What is in store for the Demons" asked Bartlett

"Yep Kevin, we are gunna try something new this preseason, we are gunna practise Football Skills" said Daniher

Yes nitro, you might have nailed our problem.

We have been too smart.
Richmond have been far too clever for their own good.
We need to dumb it down a bit.

I wonder if Rocket Science might be better at the Doggies with Mr Eade?

Yeh, I thought of that line this morning. I'm glad you used it.

If by rocket science you mean the application of science and statistical evaluation to improving a football team, then I think the answer is a resounding YES!

Neil Craig applied scientific and statistical evaluation techniques very strongly to the Crows this year and brought a team nobody thought would do well in 2005 to within a whisker of the Flag. TW and his KPI's are fine, but Terry, send a few spies into the Crows camp and learn from the master.

The best rocket science we can employ is to draft some genuine old fashioned footballers ( ones that can get the footy and use the bloody thing) and then get them fit.
Instead of getting athletes and watching them run round like headless bloody chooks coz they've got no bloody idea.

:clap :clapWell done fellas!Ive got one pearl of wisdom to throw into the mix....the original conspirator when it comes to rocket science!
Yep,it was Sheedy! When he referred to those adjudicators of the game as "martians"and the occasional sniper as"seagulls"and a certain opposition team,s percieved lack of physicality as....."marshmallows"which leads me to the conclusion that sheedy is obsessed with martianmallows who shoot bomers.....
Sorry,Ive got very little else to talk about at the minute....;. :P
