Did you see what Neil Craig was forced to do in the last quater? He had to stop flooding and play a full six man forwardline to stop Richmond keepings off!
The game looked like normal old fashioned footy!
The 'total keepings off' the Tigers used, is not of course the type of footy we all love, but think about what opposition coaches will have to do to stop it.
First we had the flood.
Now if your opponent floods, just keep the ball off them unless you have a certain option going forward. This deprives the opponent of rebounding and goalscoring opportunities.
Some foolish commentators were saying the solution to the keepings off game is to bring in more rules, mainly to do with not paying marks for backwards kicks. Not one so called expert noticed that if they just leave the game alone, what they were seeing is the tactic that will stop teams flooding.
Once teams pull players out of the flood and put them back in attack one on one, there is no keepings off either!
