The last 3 years show that winning clearances, contested possessions and first possessions, tackling and performing 1%ers are all things held in common by the teams that are performing well. Not surprisingly Richmond has finished, if not last, then a long way down these categories in the last couple of years.
For mine I think speed certainly plays an important role in the modern game. Teams like Port Adelaide have used it to great effect. I don't however think putting it above things like the ability to win the ball and having a well balanced list is the way to success. Time will tell I guess.
