Is Wallace to blame?

I think we are on the right track by identifying players with good skills in the draft and then developing them until they're ready to debut, both physically and mentally.

Clerly we are low on skill and pace. This cannot be fixed overnight!

In the last two drafts we have got Deledio, Tambling, Meyer, Oakley-Nicholls and Casserley who are fast and skilful. There have not been any Blumfields, Flemings, Houlihans etc who do not fit a long term vision.

We do not want to get our young fellas smashed every week but beatings will occur. We need patience as supporters even though Friday was ugly.

m r foley may have got a lot of posesions but did he hurt the doggies with them?
in a word no, how many kicks went side ways to an unmarked player? he needs to
stop playing safe and back his skills, the only attacking kick i can remember was a good spearing pass to a leading foward.

you can only make damaging passes if someone is working hard to get clear so you can pass to them, as poor Pettifer found out.

He had to keep hanging on to the ball on the wing far too long, until he got tackled, because nobody led for him upfield.

For christs sake ! People are forgetting who really did this to the club, the person who has put the club back 10 years, Spud Frawley ! You guys are expecting miracles out of wallace, he needs time leave the guy alone. He can't get rid of the players all in one year he needs time. Anyway it would be pointless to finish mid-table this year, for the future of the club & the mistakes the club has made in the past, we have to put up with it for a couple more years. If we want a premiership we have to finish last again cos we have the weakest list in the afl. Wallace said we had a stronger list than hawthorn, what else is he going to say when he just signed with us ? :) I say we leave him alone & give him a couple of years cos the *smile* this club has been in it needs time >:( >:(

Interesting that wallace just said on the news that the new rules in how the game has changed has stopped us from playing the game we want to play, he said if we play that style of play then we will get flogged.

Time for a new game plan, damn afl changing the rules! >:(

If training is anything like what I saw oin the news tonight then Wallace is to blame.

I saw full length of the field play where Hyde came out of the backline around the wing, the ball wasn't brought back towards goal until the player holding it reached the HF line.

How are we supposed to play through the centre if we don't even practice it?

For this Wallace is squarely and clearly to blame.

If the ground is too small, find a bigger ground. >:(

You took the words right out of my mouth.

Not such a minor consideration.

I love Punt Road, but I've long held the belief that it is inadequate for AFL modern day, on-ground  training purposes.

If you think about it, we are training on an oval that went out of use some 40 years ago. Who else is doing that ? Even the Arden Street and Windy Hill ovals would be more reflective of today's actual game day grounds wouldn't they ?

Arden st is a big ground Reddog and more appropriate for training than Punt Road, but there must be other issues involved pertaining to the lack of ability, lack of brains, lack of skill, lack of composure and lack of committent and teamwork.

Geez we are lacking in a lot of departments arent we :hihi :hihi :hihi

Amazing how memories just click back after they have been forgotten.

The whole point of the move, back in 1965, was not only to play on a big ground, but also the training rights there once or twice a week.

The whole point was to get us off a small ground. Now, 40 years later, we do nearly all our training on this sub-sized ground.

C'mon Tommy, where are you? Please say something on this issue.

I believe we need to find a large ground to train on. Maybe do our training at Waverley Park. Running from goal to goal at Waverley is going to straighten us up alot more than training at Punt Road.

Hawthorn need money. I know we do too. But what would be the cost of using Waverley for 2 sessions every week? It certainly provides a better option for training "through the centre" than our current undersized ground.

If the ground is too small find a bigger ground eh?
How clever.....The tigers USUALLY train on the M.C.G.......In case it has escaped your attention.......a minor event like the COMMOMWEALTH GAMES has some what put a temporary stop to that option.....Ya dont have to thank me.....happy to help ;D

no-one trains on the 'G

i thought everyone knew that

I didn't think anyone had trained on the "G" for a few years.

But the fact remains that in the 60s & 70s we used to train on the G regularly.

As for the big ground. If we play on grounds like Telstra, AAMI & Subiaco, then we should be training on grounds that size.
We should be going goal to goal, through the centre, on a big ground. Than around the boundary on a small ground.

Everyone knows you play like you train.
If we train going around the boundary, then that, regardless of whether you wish to or not, or whether you like it or not, is going to be the way you play.

A regular training arrangement at Waverley Park would be appropriate.  >:(

Terry's triangle seems to have been replaced by the Bermuda triangle. I am totally lost as to what game plan Terry has. Unlike basketball you do not automatically get possession back when the opposition scores a goal, you have to earn it with G&D or smarts, both attributes missing big time at the moment. Too many smalls not enough talls.

i was thinking the same thing today. what is our game plan? what happened to terrys triangle?

the lack of running off your man into space means you dont have loose players - this means your players are manned up and places more pressure on your foot skills
its a lot easier to hit a loose man on the chest than one that is under the pump by his direct opponent

the dogs continually ran off their man without being chased, they in turn created a loose man effect and an overlap, this allows them to use the ball more effectively and chopped us up
