It really dawned on me last night

Laughable!!!
If I had no direct opponent, I'd be able to rack up 39 posssesions and 22 uncontested marks!!!
Even Rosy would get 30 possys!!!!

If you had no direct opponent it would only be because the Wing Attack sprained her ankle, and she was waiting for her sister to take her place on the court

I heard you got 45 possessions kick-to-kick with Laff in your backyard on the weekend.

Bowden on the weekend controlled the ball very well. If Port are stupid enough to let Bowden get that many possessions and create moves out of the backline then that's not Bowden's fault. As for the Tigers winning against the Bulldogs, I think it would have been very likely that the Tigers would have won that game if Bowden was playing. Have seen Bowdent on a number of occassions in those scenarios help us to the line. It's all hypothetical of course but it is good to see Bowden back in form and controlling the backline.

For the record, Pattison managed 7 tackles on the weekend with 100% effectiveness. Great effort.

There is a loose man in the backline most weeks for most sides...there has only ever been more than 23 marks taken in a game once in the history of statistics.

jeez how soon we forget. without going into a bagging of *smile* people should ask themselves why most sides allow him to run around most weeks picking up mainly recieves in the back line.

answer most games. he has no real hurt factor.
i think whats most annoying about joel is he has a superb body for afl footy. 188cm 92kg yet he rarely uses his god given gift in anger. the way he plays he may as well be mcmahon. in fact im being hrsh on mcmahon at least he has pace and can run the lines.
joel doesnt tackle he doesnt shepherd he doesnt run the lines he doesnt knock blokes over and he certainly doesnt put his head over the ball.

Just for the uninitiated, this is Clawsey's way of commending Bowden for a good game. Well done Clawsey, at least you're trying.

I've read this thread through and I have to say what an absolute load of rubbish in the most part.
1) He was right to be dropped - the coach wanted something different and his form was average at best
2) He's back in defence because we have injuries and from the looks of it, he appears to be useful there ;D
3) His being dropped and his return to the 1's is now being touted as an example to the kids and that can't be bad.
4) The rubbish about his never playing passionately is just that. Some people just don't wear their heart on their sleeve like you Claw or the Richo man - it doesn't make them any less emotional.
5) He better not forget about how to play accountable forward line footy because I'm guessing that Wallace will still want a young and fast back six, when they are again available and Thursfield and King and even Raines are close to being back. So Blx the dinky football you hate isn't back permanently.
6) Yes he does bring composure to the backline - when he isn't having a dip in form - he always has.

And for what its worth - the most encouraging thing for me from that game, besides the win, is that I saw a few good touches from Polo - he might at last be on his way back to his pre-injury form. And if I remember rightly - I thought I saw McMahon do a fair bit of inside work to go and get his own ball which is also really encouraging.

Must give credit where credit is due.

Bowden played a great game last week - how many footballing "experts" were wetting themselves when Chad Cornes was running around for years on his own being less effective?

His clean possession and pressure mark in the dying minutes were all class - how many players have dropped chest marks in similar situations?

Wallace stating he is not a defender any more is a crock of you know what - he was played out of position at the start of the year and was Wallace's scapegoat when the going got rough.

It's only people who have never played the game who think "racking up 39 uncontested possies" is easy.

This attitude that somehow if you run hard, make space and support your team-mates you are doing something "soft" makes me sick.
