PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

With the debate about Victorian football raging on, it is no coincidence that our club is one of the "downtrodden".

From crap board and drafting/recruiting decisions, to coaches like Danny Frawley and Geoff Geischen.

No wonder we have been so crap for soo long.

But now that we seem to have stability in the Administration and coaching departments, we seem to be recruiting well, we are no longer trading 1st and 2nd round draft picks, we are back on our own two feet financially etc, etc......let the current finals series put all Richmond supporters under no false illusions.

We may have finished 9th on the ladder this year, but the difference between 9th and the top four is far greater than most of us can imagine.

The inequities of the competition as a whole put us behind the 8 ball before any season begins, but our sheer stupidity and shortsightedness over many years has left nothing but a 1950's fibro shack that Terry Wallace and his team has had to demolish and start again with some concrete foundations.
We have the basis for a good team but have many deficiencies that leave gaping holes in our side whenever we play a gun team.
All of our core group of youngsters need to put on heaps of muscle and get 80-100 games under their belts before they can be legitimate threats to the best in the AFL.
That will take the best of 4-5+ years.

Provided we continue to recruit properly, the early 2010's may be our time.

There is no more proof that seasoned, hard bodied, disciplined sides win finals and flags than to look at this decade so far.

2001, 02, 03 Brisbane - tough, senior list, classy, disciplined
2004 Pt Adelaide - tough, senior list, disciplined
2005, 2006? Sydney - senior list, disciplined, champion team

Richmond is miles away from having a side like these.

Patience is what is needed over the next few years, I know many of us have little or none left!
