It will not be easy!!

Isn't it something like every year for the last x (lots of) years there's always been at least one team from the previous year's bottom 4 or 8 that ended up in the Top 4?

I think it's bottom 8 to Top 4, this year it's happened this year with the Dogs, previous year Cats (& Port?)
Hopefully it's us next year

Yes, we will have to win enough games to make the eight. Also, the teams that are currently in the eight, will need to drop games for us to improve above them. Not necessarily against us, but across the board.

None of us have crystal balls, so at this stage is just interesting conjecture. Can't see the Cats or Hawks not being there. North are always a chance...well coached and one of the best tackling sides going around, which gives them an edge. Damn Collingwood always seem to make it. The Doggies....question mark after their last few games, but would be surprised if they did not get up again. Adelaide is always a threat...also well coached and they also don't give an inch. If and that's a big if, I'm close to being right, that leaves Sydney and the Saints. Sydney, at this stage would have to be very suss for '09, and that means only one spot up for grabs.

Us, Carlton and Brissy would be fighting for that spot.

As I said at the outset, it aint going to be easy!!!

Certainly won't be easy - never is when you're trying to achieve something that you really want.

However, player wise, I've got growing confidence that we're on the right path. If the current list (especially the younger players) work hard enough over summer, my expectation would be 12-14 wins and finals in 2009 (injury permitting of course). Don't worry about other clubs, control our own results and finishing in the eight/finals will take care of itself.

Connors, McGuane, Morton (who could end up as good as Brett Burton), Riewoldt, Hughes, Moore, Thursfield, Edwards, Raines etc have all got to get themselves to at least the level above where they are now as players, both in physical stature and playing performance.

Hopefully some of the untried such as Rance and Collins can come through as well.

Impossible to pick right now - give us a trade period and an ND and then let's debate. Just as there have been only 2-4 changes for years - is it overdue for a for shake up with say 5 or 6 ???

I expect us to play finals next season and anything less would be a major disappointment to me. I certainly hope everone involved at the club feels the same way.

:gotigers :cupgold

I'm 100% behind you Rosy and couldnt agree more. I expect it and will not accept anythign less next year. Iexpect us to have an impact in the finals too and not just make up the numbers.

I am def expecting RFC to play finals next year, and could finish as high as 6th I reckon.
If they don't make finals, Terry SHOULD be under some serious pressure IMO.

Sydney will unquestionably finish out of the 8. Other teams could go either way but the Swannies are on the way to a serious bottoming out I would say. The 2 big moving teams IMO next year that will come towards finals even harder will be Tigers and Blues.

Geelong = Could go 3 premierships in a row?
Hawks - Cant see them finishing out of the top 4
Dogs - Might be a little vulnerable and finish 4 - 8th
Roos - Who knows? Could finish 3rd or could finish 3rd bottom?
Pies - Not sure about them, might finish out of the 8
Crows - Same as this year expected possibly or Could miss finals next year.
Lions - Not sure if they are on the up or the down, might depend somewhat on where J Brown settles. Could miss finals next year.
Saints - Not sure if they are on the up or the down? Could miss finals next year.
Swannies - The carnival is over and an ageing list. Will start re-building next year and the year after that. Bottom 4 for mine.

Tigers and Blues the strong movers for 2009 IMO

I'm normally a brightsider - but I worry that our match winners this year have been Richo, Bowden. Those two, along with Brown, Sugar and Simmonds, have been pretty important and are all getting on. If they go (or form drops right off) - there is the potential for us to fall away a bit next year....

More recently I have seen Tucky, Lids and Moore as being our standouts.
