Does anyone else think the trade week is turning into a bit of a shambles? Firstly a week.... a week ffs is their any specific reason for 4 days of speculation when blind Freddy can see all that happens is the powers that be run in a frenzy for a few hours on the Friday morning.

Why all of a sudden in trade week do players just looking for a decent go at another club all of a sudden get noticed by the club they are trying to leave? It seems this year more so than ever any player wanting out of somewhere is automatically worth a first round pick....

I would like to see trade week become trade days ( 2-3 max) more of clubs trying to get players to clubs of choice which apart from the Power/Stevens/Pies deal and the Rawlings wanting out of hawks I think has been happening.

At the height of the Frawley rabble, all season I would wait for trade week (knowing all september I'd be watching a tiger free finals series) I guess when times are tough I looked to that week for a fix which never came. As the years have passed I would rather turn all forms of info off and hope at the end of the week we still have a first round pick.

Move on the hacks and bring out the cubs.

I think the week is neccessary. The trades wouldn't happen at all if it was just one day. Basically it is four days of planning and mind games. If it was just one day then best outcomes would never eventuate.

Two days max - beyond that is just what this week is....a bloody waste of valuable time.

teams need to 5 days trade time.

1 or 2 days isnt enough time to broker deals. Remember some trades can be complex

Whilst I'm not too sure if trade weeks extends longer than it should, I would rather have a short period in October where clubs are allowed to negotiate for players & trades. This is the best oppotunity in the season, where football decisions on players futures can be made.
If we cast our memory back to the seventies (& eighties for that matter), club officials & players were in constant talks throughout the year, over the possibility of trading players. It is not good for any player involved in these discussions to have a Football Manager trying to decide their best future, whilst he is trying to prepare for a game of football on Saturday. The Greg Wells move from Melbourne to Carlton, was a classic example.

As for a comment on the length of trade week? I'm not too sure if the 5 days is too long, but the process to negotiate a trade deal may be. One of the biggest problems in trade week is that clubs like to negotiate multiple trade transfers - It is this method that is 'wasting' so much time - We wait 5 days to hear 1, (possibly 2) complex trade deals complete. For most other clubs who are not involved, activity is scarce. Therefore, we need a equal system where all clubs have a limit on how many trade deals they can make? How much time they can spend on that trade? How many trades they must make?

They can't get their collective acts together in 5 days how are they going to do it in less time :rofl

Seriously have been surprised by some of the inactivity of some of the clubs finishing in the lower half of the ladder. Collingwood, Essendon, Carlton, Hawthorn, and of course us, but as usual will have to wait and see what transpired on freaky Friday before judgement is passed.

At this stage it looks like a buyers market as not to many real deal trades have occured. Only one I am a bit disappointed with so far is that we missed Daniel O'Connell when his wanted to come to us.

Selwood would still be an option although must admit don't know a lot about him.

From what some people were saying on another Forum Casey Green doesn't offer us much, but I had never heard of him till today. ;)

Having a trade week is preferable to having the fiasco which is the NRL Rugby League system, where a player can sign for a new club mid-year and then play against them from 1st July to end of hame & away and even a Grand Final ! Absolutely absurd !

Agree that trade week should really be from Wednesday to Friday with the first 2 days out of the public arena, and where additional list manoeuvoring and deals can be set-up behind the scenes

goes to show that this year's draft may not be so strong, hence, clubs are maintaining their list. Or hoping to pull one out of the hat.

As per usual ToO, I agree with you whole heartedly ;) !!!
I would think shortening it by a couple of days probably wouldn't crimp anyones style too much!!!

The NRL "trade" period is an absolute joke, you are completely right about that Darth Tiger. It promotes a remarkable amount of perceived disloyalty and the way they do it has never sat well with me.
Just my opinion  ;D !!!

If they used ebay it would be much more fun for supporters. :hihi
