I waited 6 months for round 1, hoping all went according to plan during the preseason, and that we could be competitive enough to show we may make a little progress this year. My expectations were realistic, knowing we had only won 3 of our last 10 games last year. Terry can't turn over the whole list over night.

The Western Bulldogs have gone through this also, it takes years to make progress. Eventually it happens with good drafting and coaching.

Take a look at last night. The bulldogs were awesome! I doubt any team could have counter played to their style of football. First off, regardless of what the bulldogs are doing, you must stick to your game plan if your a chance to win. With a great deal of skill and pace the bulldogs made us look worse than we could have played. Every pass that counted, hit their mark, every shot at goal that counted, went through the posts. All of a sudden the tigers started reacting. Chasing from behind, poor kicks under enormous pressure not manning up, leaving to much space, etc.

What ever Terry instructed these players to do pre game was irrelevant. They were being pelted, physically and mentally. Our defensive plan to stop this onslaught probably needed more thought. But who could have defensively planned against the brand of football the bulldogs played last night. You couldn't, I haven't seen it before. I believe the bulldogs will be hard to beat this year. You go in with a plan to win, maybe a plan B if the other side dominates, but there's no plan C against that style of football unless you have the skill to do exactly the same back. Which would make a brilliant game to watch. But Richmond just cant do it yet. Maybe in a few years when our second tier players develop and better drafting.

I wish it was Richmond who played champagne football last night. But realistically how could we? 3 wins in our last 10. Not to many changes on field. The bulldogs are a maturing team which has been were we are now. If we had played any other team last night we may have been a lot more competitive, if we got our noses in front, we may have even won. The bulldogs got the jump on us by playing extremely freakish football. Then finished us off by mentally breaking us to submission. Who knows what we could have done if it were a different side we played, we could have been coming off a win, confidence up, and all these posts would have been positive.

Remember it is the year of the dog, and that may be in more ways than one.

Sorry Sonny, but please don't take this as an April Fool's Day prank. I think TW's instruction were quite clear right back from the planning stages from the beginning of the week, but our players did not carry them through. As for the physical & mental aspect of the side, I agree, and they couldn't shrug this off. Maybe TW should send them over to Iraq for a short tour of duty to toughen them up a bit.

As for our defensive plan, from where I was sitting, I think the whole team was accountable for the barage of lose Bulldog players streaming down the ground into our defence.

GPB, I've said it for a while. Richmond has the stupidest players in the league. They did exactly the same thing last year Rd 1 against Geelong. It was the same players doing the same things and until these idiots are gone from the club we're never going to see any real improvement. I don't know what TW will do, but he somehow has to make it very clear that if you don't play the game to his instructions then you don't play. I know it's not realistic to drop half the list, but someone needs to shake these blokes up.

CTT, I understand the description for the players you have given me, but I disagree the use of it, if you know what I mean.

I think 'not mentally switched on' would a better word, our players aren't stupid.

I can see where you're coming from, mate, but why do they keep doing the same things over and over again? Surely they've been told time and again not to. They don't man up, they don't look before they kick, they continually give it to the guy under pressure. I don't know how else to describe some continually making the same mistakes. If they were kids in their 1st, 2nd or even 3rd seasons I'd understand it, but they're not. The guys making the mistakes are mostly the experienced players. If you can't be mentally switched on for the first game of the season when can you be? Remember the Geelong game last year? Rd 22. They stuck to a game plan and nearly rolled the Cats at Skilled. A few months on and they can't stick to a game plan. That for my money is dumb.

Sonny your heading reminds me of that saying

Although our team is quite a mess
Come in relax converse
It isn't always as bad as this
Sometimes it's even worse

I love my Tiges but they are very naughty boys.   :blah

It's not about the players not sticking to a plan. There are 2 plans out there, ours & there's. Only one plan can come off looking like it worked at the end of the night. It's simple, they have better players, whether on the night or just better outright. They can stick to their plan while we run around like chooks with their heads cut off.  We could have come off 10 wins in a row playing the same game plan, then played lastnight and got slaughtered, only because our plan is worth zero, if our players are beaten by a better side. The bulldogs are a much better side than Richmond. If you give 2 teams exactly the same game plan which would win? The team with greater skill. It's not about being stupid, it's about not being upto it in regards to your who your opponent is on the day.

Why? Because most of them are not good enough (mentally). I know that's a big statement, but we have to face the facts.
