PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

I know why we have have been cursed these last 27 years...J'accuse David Williamson!!

I was watching the film 'The Club' last night which as you know has the Magpies eventually triumphing despite the machinations of a machievellian CEO, a malevolent and insecure ex champ; a trumped up and lustful though well meaning president playing on a dung heap of a ground at Vic Park and lead actors who wre brought up playing rugby who were more laughable versions of footballers than Ben Marsh and Simon Fletcher. (Gee Chaff narrowly missed a bullet in my search for an example)

Anyway...long story short... I checked out the year it was made. Guess what 1980...our last flag which has been appropriated for the purposes of ART and a film grant and given (metaphorically and metaphysically) to the filth.

I suggest a solicitor's letter along the following lines:

Dear Mr Williamson

I act on behalf of the Richmond FC (a team that Greg Miller and Terry wallace won from Clinton Casey in a texas holdem card game)

I wish to bring to your attention a grave miscarriage of justice in your depiction of the Club in the movie of the same name.

In depicting a disfunctional team riddled with board leaks, back stabbing, naiveity, incompetence and ineptness, the team featured erroneously was Collingwood. Whilst acknowledging the fictional nature of your works, it is submitted that your work would have greater credibility it was more believable and depicted the acknowledged standard bearer of the above mentioned criteria of the last two decades, the (in) fighting (paper) tigers.

Furthermore those qualities are considered trademark Richmond behaviour and as such the bestowing of those criteria on another football 'club' constitutes an infringement of my client's intellectuall property and the continued use represents a continuing infringeenmt causing emotional distress to our loyal (... Miller giggles......Miller chortles..) fans. Our supporters have suffered loss as a result (on numerous occassions) and seek redress.

Accordingly you are asked to give the following undertakings within 14 days:

1. You will place a notice in the papers acknowledging that the 'fictional' appropriation of our last premiership by your film the Club was an error and that all references to Collingwood shall now be read as references to Richmond where they appear; or

2. agree that you will commence a sequel with Richmond depicted as the club - you will have plenty of material for a comedy hit - just to get you started I will mention soem names which are potential comedy gold - Lounder, Billy Nichols, Geishen, Walls, Spud, Alan Bond and Clinton Casey (the current group are real funny too).

If you do not give the abovementioned undertakings my client will be forced to take action which without limitation could include forwarding its cursed tiger skin presently inhabiting its spiritual home at Punt Road; or worse forwarding a copy of our round 6 game against the Cats in 2007 for your viewing.

Yours faithfully

A beaten rabble of a 'club'....begging for mercy..."

A bit tough I know but some action needs to be taken!! >:(
