For 18 months people on here have been banging on about targeting more GWS depth midfielders while recognising we need big bodied mids.

Might not work out, but it's the right type of strategy.
Absolutely. The expansion clubs were able to rape the draft for several years. Meaning they have a lot of good players around a narrow age bracket, while everyone else potentially has a bit of a hole in that same age bracket. With this in mind, trading with them not only serves as a win/win for both sides of the ledger, but it also serves to correct the missed drafting opportunities for the rest of the comp during that period.

Exploit the fact that the plastic expansion clubs are not the most desirable destination either.

Said it before and I'll say it again.
There's plenty of good kids in the gws list playing for the 2s
Cheap gets with plenty of upside

Mixes it up a bit doesn't he. Has had some impressive tagging jobs, some good, some ineffective - learning off some good opposition that's for sure.

The thing that the final showed was our lack of depth in the midfield when others aren't doing well - you need to build depth. We filled a need with pacey runners last year in the draft, but we need some players who can be that 21st/22nd player on the bench that you can rotate through the middle.

I think one of our most important signings this year will be the VFL coach - our development really needs to improve at the next level.

Like the idea of Townsend. Contested ball winner, tackler, clearance monster. Sounds exactly what we require and would free cotch up to play a more damaging role.

Get him for cheap and its a no brainer.

A tough, hard-working midfielder, Townsend made further strides in 2014. Usually given a tagging role, he is a ferocious tackler, and averaged 7.5 a game in his eight senior appearances. Is still learning how to win his own ball to have a greater impact on games, but remains on track to become the hard nut most teams crave. -

That's his 2015 bio but you can select a different bio for every year he played.
The first year 2011 says he was with the AIS academy

We have two needs that we have identified — one a rebounding defender, which is hopefully (Carlton’s) Chris Yarran, and the other is an inside midfielder,” Tigers football boss Dan Richardson said on Friday.

“Ideally we would have liked to have got an elite mid like (Adam) Treloar, but that’s not going to happen.

“We have always liked Jacob and have been tracking him for a couple of years and we feel he is a big-bodied, tough mid that we think can help us. He certainly fills a need.

“He’s obviously not a big name but we are more about needs than names. We’ve had some positive discussions.”

Townsend is out of contract and likely to cost the Tigers a third-round pick at next month’s draft.

Stupid comment from Dan. Looks like our trading game plan needs to change also.

Well Dan, sorry but that's not good enough.

The major problem that I see is they were left behind when it came to getting Treloar. Collingwood had him stitched up mid season.
If your going to get this "big Fish" make sure your offer is big enough that no one will out do you.
Richardson seems to be very conservative in offering big enough deals to get them over the line.
He would've learnt a lot from the Treloar debacle

The worst thing he can do now is go and sign someone we dont want. He has clearly missed the big fish unfortunately...

Let's get this guy and Yarran and retain pick 12 and Lennon.

Hopefully the lessons he has learned this year hold him in good stead moving onwards.

LOL. Can't get an A-grader but a D-grader will get the job done.

I'm sure that'll catapult us into the top 4 Dan!!
