Jade Rawlings to coach

If this is true, I do like one thing about Rawling and that is his honesty when assessing a Coburg players' performance in EOTT. Doesnt sugar coat it, if a player plays poor, he calls it as he sees it.

a bloody welcome change from that "king of spin" rabble of a coach that used to roam around punt road. How refreshing! We are in desperate need of some honest appraisals.

Ive heard Jade addess the team and i like him.Now lets get behind him for the rest of this season. And review again then. As it is now we have Jade so lets get on bourd. And give him a go.Good luck JR :)

Gary March's comment that appointing Jade causes the least impact on the current coaching structure...............

Yeah, let's not change what isn't broken ::) ???

Stunning decision..........................

Yeah that's a good one ain't it!

Very, very happy with this appointment.

Rawlings gets to pump up his CV, the club is saved from Campbell doing a Roos, and someone who has an involved knowlede of players ranked 22-44 on the list gets to have more input on their selection.

Worst case scenario is that Rawlings flies out of the blocks and gets us >5 wins for the year, giving us even less purchase on an already thin draft. Then again if he does that then he might be a decent coach and be worth looking at for a 1 yr term.

Rawlings does seem to be a top bloke, which may be good for developing players, but I can't think of too many top line coaches who have been as likable as Rawlings-with the possible exception of Paul Roos.

One of the first decisons made by the board in a long time that I am happy with.

I think this is a good move, there was a much bigger risk of Campbell coaching us to close wins in the second half of the year to build his resume. Am happy to have a young team for the rest of the year with guys like JON, Gus etc

It worries me we play so many other bad teams - Eagles twice, Melbourne, Kangas, Bombers. We will have to be focused if we want to avoid 3 more wins!

Nice avatar Ty

Don't really think he's much as a coach, but anyway, good on him for pumping up the club a bit in his presser as a great club and a good place to be - even if it may or may not be true.

But think he genuinely meant it so I thought it was good to hear an outsider saying that.

Yeah, he spoke with passion and put the club in the right light. Good start.

Look as just a fan I was surprised originally when we picked Rawlings up as an assistant - given he was fresh off the paddock. I was surprised again when he got the Coburg gig and dead set the wife had to give the defibrulators a rub together to get me off the floor after hearing he was the Coach of RFC.

Usually when you see that sort of a CV (continually being given the nod to go forward) it means the guy has a heck of a lot going for him and everyone is simply waiting for him to get enough experience to warrant that sort of role permanently. Good luck to him and I don't think he has any delusions about what this appointment does and does not mean.

I must admit, he was third on my list of what I thought RFC would do. And my initial reaction was one of surprise and bewilderment, wondering why they'd rip him away from the Coburg position in the middle of the VFL season.

But I've changed my tune after thinking about it over a gin and tonic. It gives a nice little shake up to what would have been our leading contender from the assistant coach ranks, Mr Campbell. There's no pressure on Rawlings to perform, he knows the list well, and knows which youngsters to bring in should the board direct him such. And hey, if he does show some promise, then who knows, we might have a smoky for our next coach!

One thing though...if the board directs him to tank by playing the kids, does he risk putting the kids into a winning position in too many games and cost us a draft pick while giving the RFC the best possible indication of his coaching abilities? Or does he "influence" the results according to the board's instructions and remains simply a care-taker with no ambitions to the job full time?
