Sorry mate, please quote me an example of my dislike for Whitey. Just one.
I haven't got the time. Please don't call me mate, because I aint.

Why did you bring up Matt when I posted about Jake?

Matt doesn't play as a small forward any more. He is not in contention to replace Jake.

If you watched Coburg games you would understand where he is being groomed for.....I'll give you a hint, it is not in the forward line.

Re: Jake King (Merged)

You gotta take the good with the bad. A bloke like Kingy plays on the edge and gives absolutely everything he has got. He does the wrong thing on some occasions but more often than not he is doing the grunt work we dont want our more skillfull players doing. If someone else doesnt bring the intesnsity that Kingy does this week, then we are a good chance to lose. Blokes like Jake are vital to teams and as much as his detractors refuse to admit they will probably continue to do so because we all have faves.

Their are lots of players at Richmond that play near the edge while giving absolutley everything they have FOR THE CLUB, not over it like Jake regularly does for HIMSELF.

These same players bring the same intensity to each game and are more vital to the future success of our club than someone who continually gets suspended for stupid and selfish actions and whose mere prescence at contests appears to affect the way that the umpires adjudicate the game, mostly to Richmond's deficit when he is near the ball.

For Jake to state on the RFC website that he his poor performance earlier in the season was a result of an injury that he hid from the coaches and staff, shows where his heart really lies.

Richo did it to be able to play and kick his 700th goal, and came straight of the ground with the obvious injury.

Cuz did it before his last game.

Surely the time has passed for such selfishness to be tolerated at a club striving for success.

In this modern era of footy surely honesty and integrity are required by all players and coaches, to enable the team to move forward into the successful era that we all expect.

Ironically your name is Jason King, and your backing kingy to the hills :D Agree with your post btw.

Kingy is too undisciplined to be considered a reliable player for the Mighty Tigers in our way forward.

We all love the romance of the PUSH UP KING, but to be regularly suspended and to get regularly paid 50 metres against him for his undisciplined behaviour is not how our club will want to move forward into glory.

The opposition hang it on him to try to get him to do his narna, and they regularly succeed.

Garbage. King is a best 22 player, is rarely beaten one on one and generally make team orientated decisions on the field. That he deserves his spot has nothing to do with romance, it's because he is a solid footballer.

He is getting back to his best, and whilst it is poor timing to get suspended the incident was an instinct reaction that many players have committed over the years. (notably serial offender D fletcher)

Re: Jake King (Merged)

Its not Kingy's fault the umps can't be unbiased like they're supposed to be. This anti-King line cuts no ice with me.

Being groomed for the exit more likely.

I suggest you find the time if you want to save face. I politely suggested you are coming from a conflicted position; you responded by making a claim you cannot support.

I've been sympathetic to your perspective re other posters' criticisms of players, if not the way it was expressed. But in that light, your slating of King is the absolute height of hypocrisy. "Do we really need a loose cannon at our club?" - you are guilty of what you've accused others of.

King is sometimes undisciplined, his suspension for tripping is warranted and hurts the team. But the facts show, King = win.

Re: Jake King (Merged)

There have been some ordinary comments removed from this thread tonight. Might be an idea to check the posting guidelines and rather than playing the man, abusing and goading try discussing actual opinions instead.

The analogy with Dustbin Fletcher is interesting.

At his peak, Fletcher was the dirtiest player to grace the AFL since Leigh Matthew's last few seasons. And certainly since his forebear retired.

Dustbin either got smart - unlikely, or someone at Essenbum (is that why it is called WINDY Hill - the place does stink) beat it into him to play footy and to stop the crap resulting in many suspensions and become a valuable team player, which he has for several years now.

If dunderhead Dustbin can do it, Jake will breeze it in and when he retires he can look the maggots in the eye and they will turn away in embarrasment.

In the meantime, can someone beat it into Jake to cut the unprofessional crap and stop getting suspended.

Too many folks will spew if certain duds get a chance to replace him.

Just like the yanks with their policy on their nuclear armed warships.

I can neither confirm nor deny your theory.

Re: Jake King (Merged)

There was a section of the game when I distinctly remember Kingy being tripped (I can't remember by who or what quarter) but I see that the MRP didn't cite any StKilda players. I agree that Kingy did the wrong thing and was caught and so wears the punishment but surely what's good for the goose is good for the gander?? ::)

Re: Jake King (Merged)

Jake's now been suspended 4 times in his last 20 or so games, mostly because of carry over points.

Two weeks for a legitimate tackle on Otten was ridiculous.

He got a week for a jumper punch on Mcgrath when Lions startd a push and shove at the start of the game, stuff that most players are not even cited for.

i cant even remember what he got done for in the last round of 2010 but again remember it was soft and it was mentioned that it cost a week only because of carry overs.

Like in matches Jake is marked harshly because of a 'reputation"

Its ironic that if you look at his frees for and against before his 'reputation' umps loved him because he put his head over the ball and was rightly rewarded.

Jake cant keep being punished disproportionately for perceived rather than actual sins. Attica...Attica... Attica...

Certainly wasn't an incident to justify some of the calls being made against his character in this thread.

Guilty as charged your Honour.

King is OFTEN undisciplined, his suspension for tripping is warranted and it CERTAINLY hurts the team.

How many times are we to tolerate his HURTING THE TEAM, especially as we rise toward the success they we all want.

No individual can continue to HURT THE TEAM.

No individual should be allowed to compromise the TEAM by taking the field while hiding an injury that is affecting performance - Jake's own words - he knew his injury was affecting his performance but hid it to stay on the field.

Leaving Jake out of it. Surely you agree that "no individual should compromise the performance of the team".

Re: Jake King (Merged)

Rimau, seeing that of the five full games King has played we have won 4, I wouldn't think the compromising performance theory carries much weight.

Perhaps it's all those goals and the pressure he contributes on the forward line.

could be wrong tho

He's had a poor season. Well down on Nahas and Titch for both goals scored and goal assists and pressure acts. Is bottom 7 or 8 for Tigers on average tackles. Is 6th last for possessions only ahead of White, Maric, Vickery, Post and Miller. Onl good game he's realy played this year was against the Hawks. Needs to do better but a couple of frees would certainly help.

Yes, agree.

At the same time, some of the things he's been taken down for are a joke. The only reason he won't be there on Saturday is the carryover points from the Adelaide suspension. Both his guilt and the machinations of the MRP in that case are very dubious.

Put it this way, I think King's contribution with occasional interruptions is more valuable than our 23rd-best player's regular efforts.
