Jake King

Re: Jake King (Merged)

I wrote King off at the start of the season, his late 2010 form did not convince me he was a starting 2011 material. Go back 12 months and most had him on the delist side of the ledger.

Extremely happy to be proven wrong, and apologise for the criticism. He has taken his game to another level and the fact he scores so many in the square demostrates he knows where to place himself on the ground to maximise his opportunities. Probably always had the smarts but skill lapses cost the team (1-2 goals) almost every week when he was only playing defence.

No reason why he cant play out a lengthy career at Richmond, kicking his 1-2 per game and putting on forward pressure that we have so long wanted to see from the yellow and back.

Well done Kingy :clap

Not as far fetched as it once seemed.......

Having a five foot terrier like Jakey yapping around, scragging and and biting increases the degree of difficulty of the clearance quite a bit.

:hihi :hihi I like this analogy Tots. He really is the football version of a Jack Russell terrier which is a big dog in a small dog's body.

Push Up is a big man in a small man's body. I am loving watching him play this year.

Re: Jake King (Merged)

BTW, the better half was out at her Chook-Club the other night so I did what any Tiger fan home alone would do and watched the replay again.

That second goal by Nahas.

Deledio kicks it in, Nahas drops an easy mark but wheels around to kick the goal anyway. Remember that one? I thought it was great work by Nahas.

On this viewing, I noticed that just in the background, King shepherds off BOTH his defender and Nahas’ man to give him the space to work in. Neither had any chance of getting near Nahas.

Fantastic stuff from everyone's favourite Little Big Man.

If he can snag 6 this weekend, it will be talked about a lot more.

I reckon he doesn't even have to do that.

If he kicks his two or three and lays those tackles and does the hard things he will maintain that attention.....

If he does kick 6 though, it will be massive news.

The AFL website has a DIRECTORS CUT of the Dreamtime game. It's in Carlton Draught TV ad slo-mo.

I think the second or third bit of game footage has Jakey flying for the ball against Hooker, and in super slo-mo, Jakey plants his knuckles into Hookers' schnozz!! Just before that he throws the ball to Jacko. :hihi

Great stuff! :hihi

Tottie, I was at the game so on watching a replay of that goal I noticed the very same thing. You also would have noticed that the game sealing Vickery goal also came from a King tackle/turnover on Heppell.

He does so much in terms of blocks, shepherds, tackles and just implied presure from flexing his biceps, stomping his feet and snorting that he is invaluable. I still believe we would have beaten Carlton in round 1 if we had Kingy patrolling that forward line in that last quarter.

Really nice to see AFL at that speed, get a real good look at the emotions on players faces. I love how they portray it during the Aus open. Brilliant.

nice to Jake and Dan Jackson have a special brew at Chimmeys in bridge rd last saturday morning...
couldnt imagine the Push up King a brew sort of guy...

Re: Jake King (Merged)

Bit of Jake love time. I just loved the way he went for Hudson twice in the WB game. I like Hudson by the way a real scrapper. Hudson didn't bite back it was like two sharks deciding it just wasn't worth the pain. The Merrit mountain climbing tackle was also an absolute ripper. You can't buy that sort of toughness.

Re: Jake King (Merged)

Anyone else starting to think with the way the club is going about development it would be a bad move to delist ANYBODY?

Seriously, Nahas, killing it, King, killing it, White, getting better, Rance, killed it the other week. On their form last year (King the first half), I wouldn't have raised an eyebrow if we delisted all of them. Now if Dimma got rid if all of them I would call for his head.

I want to see what they can get out of Post and Morton.

Have you noticed how he just runs away from packs with the ball these days? No-one tackles him, they just chase half-heartedly, making sure they don't get too close just in case he turns nasty.

Actually, that Director's Cut is quite funny. As well as those two dodgy bits of play, we get to see Hille taking a screamer while Monfries ties up Rance, pins his arms and stops him from jumping and then Ryder takes a screamer but his team-mate in front of him clearly gets his hands on the ball first, Grimes trips Jetta, Helbig gets a poke in the eye and Crameri just lets the ball fall out of his hands when tackled.

It is almost like they set out to embarrass the umpires on purpose.

Re: Jake King (Merged)

I tell you what I did like about his play in the final quarter during the Essendon game where he tried (succeeded in) getting around two Essendon players and then tripped over,,, and this kind of speaks of our whole team actually,,, it's that he wanted to guarantee himself a goal.... He didn't want to just throw it on the boot where a "near enough is good enough" type effort that has kept Richmond at the bottom of this ladder... It's more like "I will make sure I am gauranteed to kick this goal, or i'll die trying".... He didn't want to settle for a chance at kicking a point...

It has been a fantastic way that we are playing this year... We aren't just throwing it to the first option and messing ourselves up... We are having faith in the fact we can, and are better than that... We can make sure we hit targets.. We can make sure we kick goals... Not just kick and hope.. Not just rely on another player to make up for us rushing things...

Fair enough he may have got a better result if he's just rushed a kick... And we really got nothing from that play and it looked embarrassing... But it symbolized a vision on wanting the best and not settling for less... Even if in this case that focus got us nothing at all...

Jake king and the whole team are setting a standard for themselves.. And more and more i'm seeing of all our players a refusal to accept something lower than that standard... And I think it's where our consistency is starting to come from...

Or I read to much into things, and it was just a J King f'k up..... I like to think it was him demanding a goal, or nothing at all.... A good attitude I feel.... :)

Plus he's like 15 goals 2 this year... So he's doing something right around those goals...
