Reported that Kingy will contest his suspension tonight.

They ought to try and get a transcript of the umpires' discussion of this during the game. They took until the second quarter to decide that Jake King should be the subject of an investigation into a first quarter incident.

Unbelievable the way they treat him. I'll have to get one of those radios one day.

And condolences to Jake and his family from me as well.

Sorry to jump in Scoop, but Rosy I believe Jake lost his 7 month nephew last week which was why everyone wore black arm bands against BrisVegas. The family is understandably pretty grief stricken at present.

Yep, wasn't going to go with it but this is the truth. Think the funeral was held this week. Say what you will about Jake but he is a fiercely loyal & honest bloke who puts his family and mates before just about anything.

Very sad. All things considered, Kingy did well to restrain himself under immense provocation. McGrath is lucky he didn't get knocked out. I wanted to knock him out without having gone through anything like Kingy had gone through.

Based on the video evidence available, an investigation by the MRP and a medical report from the Brisbane Lions, the incident was assessed as reckless conduct (two points), low impact (one point) and high contact (two points). This is a total of five activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level Two offence, drawing 125 demerit points and a one-match sanction. He has an existing poor record of four matches suspended within the last three years, increasing the penalty by 40 per cent to 175 demerit points. He also has 9.35 demerit points carried over from within the last 12 months, increasing the penalty to 184.35 points and a one-match sanction. An early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to 138.26 points and a one-match sanction.

Apart from claiming it wasn't King, I don't see the basis for a challenge. It couldn't be seen as less than reckless (it was a deliberate smack to the mouth); can't get lower than low impact; and it was certainly high contact.

I guess the only thing is he won't get longer.

Was it though ? A deliberate smack to the mouth ? My recollection was a fair bit of pushing & shoving & more than one person involved. Had it been someone like Chris Judd involved I doubt it would have been looked at too much.

I thought it was just a scuffle as well until I ran the footage step by step. It's not clear, but you can see an arm swing out from behind Kings right side with the fist clipping McGrath on the mouth. From the body positions it has to be King. Vickery has turned away wrestling with another Lions player.

If there was no blood and he didn't leave the field, it would be a non issue.

Is it one week no matter what, or does it go up to two weeks if unsuccessful?

Agree on the blood and leaving the field. According to westerntigers quote it should be 1 week no matter what.

Re: Jake King (Merged)

Just had a look at the afl site and I reckon I was looking at the wrong vision. The incident that opened McGraths lip would have to be the one where King jumper punches him surely? Could that rate as negligent and would it make a difference to the suspension?

Good to see McGrath helping Kingy out at the MRP. Saying how Jake didn't mean it and McGrath wasn't wearing a mouth guard.

He's a good guy!

Yeah McGraths evidence didn't help the prosecution. Did all he could to play it down. Old school stuff, as much as he could get away with. Good to see him telling the truth. ;D

The King clan are holding McGrath's bet rabbit hostage.
