Re: how far is Jay Schulz away from playing?

Sarge gets another crack at a Richo free forward line. :)

Be interesting to see how he goes, hopefully he gets a couple of weeks at it.

I'd hope so ToO but it depends on who the other ins and outs are i suppose. Still would not be surprised to see him start down back for us.

Hi Tubs, after kicking 4.5 at Coburg , I'd say they'll try him forward. Initially anyway.
They wouldn't have played him up front otherwise.

He was crashing and banging around pretty well yesterday. Looks ready to go to me.

Agree, ToO no doubt and i for one as you clearly know think that he needs to be left  down forward for a number of weeks and given a decent go of it. But it is horses for courses so I would not be surprised if he did play down back mate depending on the inns this week.

Re: how far is Jay Schulz away from playing?

As others have already posted Jay is yet to prove himself either in attack or defence at senior level. Personally I fancy him up forward although, all else being equal, any experience he can get playing in defence should also assist his development.

Right now match fitness is the problem. Had he been ready then in hindsight we may have done much better using him instead of Stafford last Saturday. Staff was good early but struggled as the game progressed. Given his good hitout with Coburg then I'd be happy to see Schulz in, Staff out against the Kangas.

Re: how far is Jay Schulz away from playing?

Jay is 21yrs old 190something cms tall & has had quite a few long term injuries & some posters are trying to offload him. It is commonly accepted that bigger players dont mature/come good until their mid twenties. He is in the apprenticeship phase of his career, for Petes sake give the guy a chance to show his wares. You never know the wait just might be worth it.

red as one of the few posters on this site whose judgement i trust when it comes to footy ( not worth 2 bob when it comes to anything else) where is schulz at.

*smile* to FF

I would like to see *smile* get a run at FF for the next 4 weeks whilst Richo is out. Lets back him and give him a decent run.

I think for the next 3 years the forward line would look better with this mix. Get rid of Stafford and get some mobility and pressure into the forward line.

Re: *smile* to FF

*smile* to FF is obviously the plan for this weekend against the Kangas.
He played there pretty well exclusively for Coburg yesterday (Sunday), and did pretty well too, watched by the Tigers assistant coaches.

I think our future setup will have simmo up forward and patto will do the bulk of the ruck work. Patto for a big man doesnt show alot in the air, but once he fills out hopefully he can improve this area of his game!
