Jayden Short

Short is an elite kick, either foot. His dual-sidedness buys him a little time and space that his lack of genuine pace does not.

Connor Menadue is an elite right foot kick, I reckon slightly more penetrating than Short. His left, while neat, doesn't have the same depth as Short's. But his pace buys him the space to get back onto his right. He's a yard quicker over 10 metres and 3 over 20. We've seen how quickly he can get from one end of the G to the other, with or without ball.

Connor hasn't had the chance to play the Short role (which is the Houli role). Not in the ones, anyway. He's behind Short developmentally so he's learnt it in the twos.

He got a taste of the ones for a few weeks, but as a wing-forward - tough gig for a skinny n00b. No one gives you the ball, unlike in the Short role. You have to run. You have to make every contest or everyone notices because KMac ain't always there to save ya (mostly he is. KMac is SuperGrover in a man-suit.).

Connor got dropped and racked up what - 26? - touches in the hail?

We've got cover for Short.

Gee spook. Menadue is not even in the same ball park as Short. Menadue will be lucky to be around next year while Short will play 150+ games

SHhorty has one vital skill that I love - he doesn’t fumble. When the ball is on the deck it’s a one take for him.. very very clean and hugely important on the last line of defence.

Yes he has very clean hands, he has done some fantastic one-handed pick-ups.
He has great evasive skills too, which allows him to put his kicking skills to good use.

Has to stay as our meter gain mainstay (Houli) hits 30 and start to get some soft tissue injuries. Short is the "quarterback" for the next several years.

Clean hands, evasive step, kicks bloody well off both feet, runs the lines hard. What the hell is there not to like about Shorty? Not every player in the team needs to be a crash n bash brute or in and under shuffling the ball out.
Plenty have spent years slagging off at the likes of Grigga n Bachar yet both have been very good quality players for us over a long time. Reckon Shorty plays the perfect Bachar replacement role already, having Bachar n Shorty both still available for now gives us massive drive and attacking flair. When Bachar's done we'll need to find another one to support Shorty.

He's also a magnificent penetrating kick off both feet. I feel very calm when the ball is in his hands.

Most meters gained so far this season.

1 P. Seedsman Crows 12 6643
2 H. Shaw Giants 12 6422
3 J. Short Tigers 13 6218
4 J. Lloyd Swans 13 6173
5 N. Wilson Dockers 12 5980

Short is doing a magnificent job running the ball out of the backline.
Plus his kicking is great, rarely miskicks.
I like the kid.

Stats schmats, it’s about running around without the ball offensively and defensively. Low posessions and lots of arm waving is where it’s at.

I'd suggest average per game is a better and more accurate guide.

Come off it.
Ok..25, I really rate the little fella and believe he suits our style immensely. Funny team this one..very even across the board but they all seem to fit so well together like a jigsaw puzzle.

At the end of the day, Short simply must accept a little less to have the honour playing for a large, successful club. If he plays finals, he should be more receptive to it, and it’s understandable why he wants to question his worth before that time.

Have nonissue with what short is doing. Don’t think he wants to leave but wants to see if he won’t be screwed come finals time in regards to selection. Probably thinking Ifbhe misses out on selection for finals footy this year then he will be saying thanks but no thanks to the rfc. Fair enough too. If he makes the finals side then he ain’t going anywhere and will be signing up.

Price keeps going up. And up, and up. Now a genuine weapon that needs to be planned for.

Two goals from a back flank. 7 inside 50's and went at 95% DE.

22 total sprint efforts, Broad leading the way with 35. Repeat sprints Broad with 8, Short with 6. Also with the highest Average speed in Defence at 10.3, Broad with 9.4.

These two are the hardest workers in the back half. Short has the class to damage with the ball and is more than capable of running games out.
