PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

Is anyone else starting to get a bit peeved off about the AFL turning all it's most coveted and celebrated traditional clubs into simple franchises? I mean trust a politician to enter the game without a rats arse about members, fan bases, history and tradition. Just as long as the books balance and the board's on your side that's all that matters right?

Now I'm sure there'll be the hardline, 'tough nut' claws out there who will inevitably be controversial and say we should go one step further and just shut up shop and move the whole competition to India, cos that's the growing sector these days (sorry if I'm putting words in your mouth ;D), but having lived in England for some 6 years now and seeing the outrage that the relocation of Wimbledon FC caused (I am now an MK Dons fan, for anyone that knows and cares) I find it alien that it could be such an open debate back in Oz. I mean at least Wimbledon were pretty much shot to ribbons - it was inescapable. But to call on Melbourne to hitch hike hundreds of miles just because they're making losses is to me infuriating. Should Richmond have merged with the Wagga Wagga Desert Rats when we were in financial difficulty? It just seems like the easy excuse like tanking.

"Oh, good business management? Nah nah nah. Just jump in your caravans and pitch ya tent somewhere else! That'll get you out of trouble."

I mean some clubs will be round the world in far less than 80 days if we're not careful.
