JLT game 1 v Adelaide team

Things that excited me from last night:

Running
More running
Tackling
15m handballs forward
Griff marking
Jack flying for marks
Anything that Rioli did after the first few touches (where he clearly tried to do too much)
Nank - the anti Hamster
Prestia was so much better than I expected.
Caddy was good
Griggs was very good
George
Butler
Dave seems to be thinking faster

Things that didn't:

Bellis still undoing good things with panicky things
Long bombs to nobody, better than short kicks to nobody but still...

Things that made me yell out (good and bad):

Dusty playing on and hitting the post (a goal would have brought 7,500 to their feet
Ivan shuffle stepping and then spearing a perfect pass.
Jacks first goal
Most of Riolis work
Dusty playing on and kicking the goal.
Bellis telling Jack to calm down when he marked near the end. Brandon, there are clearly mirrors in your house, I suggest you have a long look in one of them.

Need to find replacements for Hunt Conca and Batchelor these guys are not best 25 let alone best 22
Lennon and Bellis huge question marks
Cellos needs to get more of if besides one poor kick he is very composed by hand and foot
Liked the intent in the tackles and was happy with butler didn't realise he had that pace
Nani Caddy and Prestia tick tick tick will make us a better team
Look forward to next week with some enthusiasm
Ashbury good on Walker but his inability to move the ball quickly due to him kicking floaters is a major worry
Still don't see the value in the dink10 metre kick out from a behind

I see everyone has found their sunglasses after the first preseason game.

Looking at Prestia and Caddy, knowing Lids is down with another soft tissue injury and the fact we avoided the cursed Pick 6, we look like we smashed the trade period last year.

So many good signs, but it's only the first preseason hitout. Let's see what we do against the Blues Rd 1.

i must be getting old and grumpy. and just plain negative

i seriously cant see what everyone is getting excited about.

i thought we looked like a clear bottom 4 side last night

Only the first practice match of the season, was great to see the new faces n youngsters having such a positive input on the game.

Reckon I saw a huge dose of back to previous years last night as in 2013/14/15.

Plenty of honest hard working football going on with the obligatory dose of overuse in close trying to ram through heavy pressure. An over dose of unnecessary sharing inside the forward arc. A healthy dose of incompetent brain farts by players over finessing or blasting without thought, aaaannnnd a smattering of outrageous brilliance at times.

Plenty of deja vu in what I saw last night, plenty of shake rattle and roll that will keep Tiger fans hanging off the edge of their seats all year, what I didn't see much of was the smooth, poise, polish n control during the game needed to feel calm and comfortable that the players had the game under total control.

Just made it home after last nights game! So all my comments where filtered through the googles...

Yes its the escort cup so nothing to get excited by, blah blah etc!

The intent was clear! All the "we want an attacking game plan!" will be happy. The new additions are good to watch and have added extra decent AFL footballers to our side. Much needed!!!!!!!!!!
Our problem will be (like it has been for to long) The Hacks that just are not up to it. We do all the hard stuff and they just F it up, time after time after time! Ellis being their poster boy. Oh and some of the kids easily being pushed of the ball and their tackles broken!

Highlight for me...

Oh Danny boy!!!!

I thought we looked a lot smoother and polished as the game went on. It'll come with time and as we master our new playing style.

most teams look scrappy at this time of year anyway

I liked how our best players weren't the usual Dusty, Cotch, Jack.. With those guys out of second gear last nights side could be top 8 worthy.

Once again we are talking about individuals rather than a great game plan and structure.

Nankervis, Rioli, Caddy and Butler looked the goods. Crows played with about 5 less players in the last 1qtr and a half and it still took us till the last 5 minutes to put the game to bed. They were missing a number of their best players whereas we only have Rance to come back in.

Still dumb decisions at crucial times of the game. Griffiths, Lennon, Lloyd, B Ellis, Maric, Batchelor and Hunt should never be seen in a Richmond Football club jumper again.

Will get smashed by teams like Sydney, Bulldogs and GWS if we play that sort of footy. Too many passengers and still relying on individual brilliance to make a difference.
This would be the same Bulldogs who lost to Melbourne and the same Sydney who lost to Norf? It's pre season, fud. Enjoy the win and try to find some positives.

Great to have ten goal kickers last night, Caddy, Martin, Cotchin, Flossy, Edwards and Lloyd are going to kick quite a few goals this season.

Nailed him. This is the challenge for coaches/development. His upside good, how do you use it? In modern footy a bloke with a good tank is invlauable, would be a shame to see him stagnate.

One of the new tricks is to have the players watch drills at a slightly higher than normal speed, then perform the drills. Your brain adjusts so you feel like you have more time. The advances in VR would be a great way to do it too.

That's very interesting. Do you know if any club hmis using vr yet?

Here's my orig post. I didn't say grigg was totally crap. I said he need to be out of our 22. Let me pick one player as an example macintosh. Who would we prefer on a wing. I won't put my argument up but I'll back my orig comment. We need to replace these players grigg included. Macintosh just for arguments sake vs grigg. See what I'm saying...

He shouldn't be out of our Best 22, but he also shouldn't be in our top tier of midfielders. He now isn't and will therefore go ahead and do what he does best which showed last night. Its obvious you will never change your opinion of him regardless of how he performs. He will and should be in our Best 22, but having Grigg as a mid 6-10 means we have some very good mids in there. The issue with him hasn't been anything that he's done but our lack of midfield depth.

Out. Lloyd
In. Gordon

Lloyd was as bad as Lennon tonight

No he wasn't, and he only played half the game. His stats and influence were similar to last season, he just wasn't on the field that much.

I think he will play a full game next week.

He did fine. He only had 54% TOG. Got 10 possessions and was good when he got them. Still needs to put a bit more bulk on him as his tackles still don't stick that well.

Still don't see the value in the dink10 metre kick out from a behind

I thought Conca was very good?

Good decisions, got the ball, good speed?
