Joel Bowden AA Centre Half Back!

not only has joel fooled most ferals on this site but hes also fooled the aa selectors as well. hes been rewarded by selection in a position where accountability is a prerequisite for being unaccountable.i can think of at least a dozen players i would pick in front of bowden to play chb.
for christsakes jason cloke showed he can do joels job reasonably well.
You're off your head :rotfl

What a wonderful post Craw and so chock full of heart warming honesty and vision. :clap

As always you are right on the money, Richmond selectors, the coaching panel, AA selectors and thousands of Tiger supporters know zip.

Only you and the AFL umpires know Joel Bowden is a complete DUD.

You already know it, dont you ...the Brownlow Count that is.

Just watch how many Brownlow Votes he gets and then everyone can know how much he stinks.

What do you think mate? No votes again? All Australian and probably a 3rd straight Jack Dyer Medal? and not a single un-biased, honest AFL umpires vote.

Its just wonderful to be a Loyal Richmond Tigers supporter isnt Craw. :vomit

Bowden had an outstanding year, he will clearly win our B&F by a mile  :clap
He probably gets the AA spot because he had to do it on his own without much assistance down back

well deserved in my mind :clap

as far as Simmo goes, he had a great year but both Lade & Cox were ahead of him IMO

And Claw im still waiting for the 10 CHB you can easily name ahead of bowden  ??? :blah
patience patience tango and cash.joels role in the backline has been primarily as a loose player acrooss hb. on the few occasions hes been asked to be accountable hes been mostly carved. players who are better chb who actually play there when asked are mcguire. grant, hunter graham.hudghton.cornes wakelin croad egan harley johnson mcpharlin do i need to go on. and this list doesnt include all those players who play both key defensive roles regularly.joel is a sweeper to call him a chb is a slap in the face to all chbs.

Claw I've seen Joel hold Jonathon Brown at CHB, to say he can't play the position and is unaccountable is unfair.
Sure purely defensive tactics isn't he strength but he brings so much more to the team.
I can't believe that you've still got the dark glasses on with regards to this player.
Dual AA, duel JDM and possibly about to make it three, yet you still find ways to bag the crap out of him?
Unbelievable.

nice try claw but your list falls a bit short:

mcguire - agree better
grant - equivelent
hunter - no way
graham - no way
hudghton - no way
cornes - better
wakelin - you have to be joking
croad - no way
egan - your joking
harley - no
johnson - no
mcpharlin - no

so i will give you 2 better Corens & Maguire and 1 equivelent in Grant - thats 3 the rest :blah

List is mainly shutdown merchants and straight-ahead no-frills types - only Cornes is comparable creatively.

I agree Tango. Just think, according to claw, us ferals are deluded :rofl
If claw isn't deluded in his low opinion of JB, and worse, his over-rated opinion of most of the players he listed, then that's just laughable.

the types of players joel should have been competeing for aa with are gilbee johncock clement wirrpanda hunt mcdonald gram and others they play loose in defence which is what joel does most of the time.yet theres no talk of these guys being chbs. i reckon id take all of em before *smile* anyway.

Out goes the usual Claw bait. ::)

In case you didn't notice Joel was playing FB and CHB for large chunks of this season in the absence of injured players like Gaspar, Hall and Thursfield in light of our lack of genuine DKPP's.
His brother was usually playing the loose role in defence whilst Joel was taking on some of the gorillas that some of the players you've just mentioned would have trouble containing.
The fact that he was able to defend against much bigger oppenents competently, AS WELL as create drive from the backline is the very reason he got the nod. Certainly he is a more valuable overall player than most of the names that you have thrown up against him.

Thoroughly deserved IMO.

Whilst I dont agree with Claws assessment of Joel Bowden's ability, and I'd choose him over most on that list any day of the week, to be fair to claw, his comment is about the best CHB in the competition. There is no way Joel Bowden is the best CHB in the competition. In fact I reckon when he was playing in a key position, he spent more time in the FB position. Bowden is the most creative player in the Tigers team, and he plays his best footy as a loose defender, where he is able to link and make the play. Full credit Joel for taking on the difficult roles, but these roles have definitely been plan B in the absence of quality KPP backline players this year (forced by injury).

Players on the first list are all taller than Joel, second list are all smaller (with the exception of Clement). Joel is a hybrid who can play both roles.

Like the hybrid analagy for Joel, I actually thought of him as a backline version of Brad Johnson, but hybrid fits the bill perfectly.
