Re: AA team 2005

Have you had a good look at McLeod in the past two years, craig? He is really struggling, mate. Bowden would destroy him.
Agree. He had an ordinary game against the Saints the other night too. Not the player he once was. Certainly not better than Joel this year. Personally i think Joel definately deserves his spot in the AA team.

Ok, first of all... congratulations to Joel Bowden. Well deserved and a fantastic reward for the hard effort he has put in through his career.

:clap

did croad have a better season than tuck?

Did Tuck play at CHB? No.

Croad was picked at CHB as there has been a distinct lack of talent playing at CHB all year at every club. Chad Cornes might come close if he had been injury free. He would have nudged Croad out if that was the case. Croad is a thoroughly deserving receiver of AA this year. He has improved his game in most areas, his fitness is the best it has ever been, his disposal has vastly improved. Until he was moved forward (due injuries) he was just about all we had in defence... which brings me to

Very poor side a 1/3 of the side is a joke fb and chb are the biggest joke of all.
How the hawks could get 3 players in the side of the year is a joke, 1 but not 3.

The reason these three made it is because the rest of the side has been made up with kids. Hodge, Everitt and Croad have stuck out like proverbial dogs balls in a side with very little experience.

By the way, which one would you have selected. Obviously Croad is the big problem most had. But Hodge has killed the competition across half-back and through the middle. His possessions have been high (av 27) and extremely effective with rebound50 and inside50's. And Everitt was a coin-flip with Cox as the best ruckman in the league. The other surely would have been on the bench. So which one would you have picked as your 1?

I think Rutten has been the best full back of the year. Adelaide had easily the best defensive group of the competition. It stands to reason that at least one of that group would get through with AA.

If you were going to put Everitt in, wouldn't it be either in the Ruck or on the bench, rather than take the place of a more deserving forward.

Agree 110%. Everitt should have been on the bench and Robertson in the forward pocket. His omission is my biggest concern with this AA. How he cannot be included, even at the very least on the bench, is beyond me. Surely Robertson has had a better season the Brent Harvey for that last bench spot.

Well done Joel,

Well deserved, a tremendous couple of years rewarded.

Agree re McLeod. He’s had a good year by normal standards, but poor by his own, not AA. While I agree Robertson should be in, Akermanis should be selected before him. His form-fade from injury in the last month cost him with these goldfish-memory selectors.

I reckon the selectors fall into 2 traps:

1) Late season form has more weight than early season form. hence the Aker omission, and I’d argue Richo as well. Richo dominated early, then played very well for the rest of the season. Harvey played a few good games late in the season so that’s why he’s in.

2) Using different standards for different players. Hence players like Aker, Richo, Tredrea, Judd, Robertson not getting in, but players like Barry, Cornes, Harvey, Croad getting in. Players who are high-profile proven matchwinners and/or champions have to do more with each accolade they earn.

A good way to select would be for all the coaches to do it. Where they cane only select, say, 2 of their own players.

Well done Joel Bowden.

Along with Deledio and Brown he's the most talented player on our list.

Way too underated by tiger fans.

Belated congrats to Joel Bowden, its not easy getting AFL recognition or accolades when you wear the yellow and black so you have deserved this twice over Peacock.
