Joel Bowden any thoughts?

one thing that never ceases to amaze me is the puny bodies we keep putting on the park right across the board. i just wonder how long it will take for them to start addressing this area.if anybody thinks a big strong key defender is not required they are kidding themselves.

Maybe we can make some money by hiring out some jockeys for the horse races.

as one who was at the game i thought very early in the piece that bowden should have been moved onto hansen. bowdens lack of size and closing speed was really shown out last night.

Good to see you not purely blaming your usual whipping boy for this mismatch claw.
The problem is as you point out list management.
It's a disgrace that we don't have a big bodied defender on our list.
Polak has not been the solution.

Well Greg?

Jamie Graham Perhaps?
i like graham very underrated player. when you compare the weagles list to our its hilarious when it comes to the way they manage big blokes. waiting in the wings for a defensive kp spot is graham sphanger mckenzie schofield and a young kid not many would have heard of i really like called thompson. they are grooming 5 genuine players of kp size to take over if glass and hunter should go down. 3 of those 5 have played afl.

Pretty easy to be grooming players when you are already a premiership team

Much harder when you are on the bottom with a lack of depth from years of bad list management

they are in the exact same boat as us when it comes list management and drafting. both clubs can only have a maximum of 44 players in their system. theres absolutely no reason why we cant have 5 developing kpd like wce have.or at least have the kdp adequately covered. they have 8 players on their list capable of holding down a kd post if need be.
how many do we have 3 on the entire list its a disgrace. being bottom of the ladder should be an open ticket to go out and draft what you need. useing ladder position is an excuse.theres no reason why we should not have key areas of the list covered millers had 5 drafts and wallace 3 they have failed to address key issues at the club.

West Coast have been grooming these KP players since 2000 when they finished in the bottom 8, they addressed why they were down there for, can you imagine West Coast with access to top 10 draft picks now as this club always has, it would show how inept the Ghost and Mr Miller actually are!

Agree entirely on Bowden, posted a couple of weeks ago that he should move upfield, sick of seeing him lose his player or getting outbustled continually in a marking contest. It's not as if he's an inexperienced player. Either drop him or move him upfield.

here here talon i agree with your sentiments but. wce have only one key defender who is a first round pick that being darren glass at pick 11 a pick they got by the way for jason ball.
wce have shown a willingness to use their first round picks on best available and use the rest of their picks on needs. the vast majority of west coasts talls have come from second and third round picks with a few rookies and one late pick. they have not built their tall stocks on real late picks they have used very valuable 2nd and 3rd round picks and targeted talls with them.

in saying this i think they would have still targeted best player available with first picks which in the main tends to be onballers and taken the type of players they have with their second third round picks, even if they had top 10 picks. one thing for sure their list management has been great im pretty sure if they had a early pick this draft kruezer or mcevoy would be high on their list i can see them taking a ruckman with pick 15 16 17 or what ever it turns out to be.

Number of comments -

Bowden shouldn't have been matched up on Lynch. Woud have preferred Polak to take the job with relief ruck provided by someone else.

Bowden's role if he's to stay back is to be placed on third or fourth opposition forward and run off.

However given he was on Lynch, I can't understand why Bowden didn't try to start in front. Lynch takes most of his ball on a lead - not a great pack mark.

U people are unreal. The ball was coming lace out to Lynch, it didn't
matter who played on him.

FJ, this is where i disagree, Bowden just didn't play close enough, most of Lynch's marks were out on his own, where was JB nowhere to be found thats the point im making. Thursfield plays very close always seems to get his hands in front of the player attempting to mark, more times than not he punchs the ball away with JB he didn't even do that cause he gave Mt Lynch to much latitude.

GET REAL all of U. He has been great for most of the year.

dont compare rocca and lynch

rocca is a fat slob who run about 50m all game, he is joels *smile* and the perfect matchup always against the pies

when joel plays on a bigger opponent who runs him around (lynch) he gets shown up for the true unnacountable player he is

he's had 10 years to become a midfielder and he never has and never will become one so the poor excuses about playing him down back are laughable

if its alright for him to get 2 all australians in key defensive positions maybe he should play like it

Well duh ! Obviously hew has been playing like an AA to get 2 AA births :cutelaugh

The best defender in the competition aint going to stop the goals against richmond, they frequency it comes in and the quality of delivery makes it almost impossible to stop key forwards.

What's wrong with giving Schulz a go at playing on the bigger forwards? He is quite big and solid.

How about Polak? Why the hell did we recruit him?

Wasn't Wallaces sell on recruiting Polak that it would free up Bowden?

Wallace's persistence with Bowden and McGuane as key backs is laughable.

My wife watches about two games a year. After Lynches first couple of goals she commented " any chance Richmond are going to use any of these draft picks they are getting on a player with a big body???"

I think there is something in that for all of us.
