Joel Bowden must never play senior footy again

A wonderful career that should be appreciated by all fans. :clap

Agreed. I will certainly cheer him off.
Been a very good player for the Tiges over a long & difficult period.

Smart footballer too. Reckon he'd get a coaching gig somewhere if he pursues that option.

His play isnt constructive.

- he fumbled and stalled any run .

That's right - He wouldn't take on the game as a senior player when we were the team dictating terms.

Terrible example. He's already had one resurrection.

Moore, McGuane and co. have learnt all they possibly can. I'd rather see them making mistakes and having the opportunity to learn the craft on their terms. To have that responsibility for better or worse.

Twice AA Joel in an inexperienced backline. That time has gone. Could still be useful for Coburg.

What odds he get's one last try this week, to relive last years glories at AAMI - along with a recall for Morton ?

I'm sure there'll be an MCG send-off later in the year - for him and Kane J - ala Tivendale ... Melbourne Rd.18 ?

no send of games for anyone against melb that game could well be seeing us play for pick 2 i already know who i want at two and he sure as hell wont be there at 3.

Even Gerard Healy said last night that Round 18 could shape up as the Tom Scully cup. Leave the farewell games for Round 21.

we hang around each other on the ground then wonder why theres no-one to kick to and we stop and prop and dont want to run hard to offer multiple disposal options, we need to learn for starters where to position ourselves when our team has got the ball

he is shocking, but the game plan doesn't help him on occassions i must admit, thursfield back in, then play joel at CHF to present a target - because god knows Sarge doesn't know how to do that, or JON

I can see he does good things down back, but his bad things and particularly his bad examples (esp the chips sideways) outweigh them now.

Still, I think he has been great up forward, and I would like to see him spend at least another year with us, playing (at least predominantly) up there. Good hands, cool head, goal-kicker. The new position might revitalise him; he won't need too much learning, as he's experienced there; and there'll be less temptation to fall into old habits.

A bit of defensive work might set a good example to some of our other forwards.

See this is where we go wrong.

We are too concerned about winning games now instead of developing players who could one day win us a flag.

No, I think we should be doing both (you get nowhere near a flag without winning games!).

I just don't want to see a full-on bottoming-out/development strategy that leaves us in the wilderness for another few years still without a guaranteed return, while our good "developed" players like Foley and Lids get demotivated and jaded.

There seems an (understandably) attractive wish here sometimes to tear up our current list and start all over - I'm saying we don't need to do that; and in particular, we don't need to unthinkingly delist anyone over a certain age. Especially someone who not long ago won us a few games on his own through the cool head of experience.

That's what Wallace and Frawley thought.

This is Richmond we are talking about.

This might be true for a club who has a handful of genuine leaders like what Geelong or Sydney had at the time of their climb up the ladder, but unfortunately we haven't.

We have no leaders, our culture is pathetic and we desperately need a clean slate and a proper rebuild from the foundations up.

I see Bowdo has his testimonial dinner next month.
Probably deserves it's own thread.

Is it at that cafe with the playgorund out the back, in Nicholson st?
