Joel Bowden must play in the midfield

Joel Bowden has been flying under-the-radar for way too long. Stopping the acceptance of mediocre (receiver) performances from this player will do him more good than anything else. He needs a fair dinkum slap to wake up.

I would hardly call a player in Bowden that has played for the past 3 seasons generally as an undersized CHB or Full Back and has usually shut down the oppositions number 1 or number 2 forward a mediocre receiver.

At any other Club with depth, Joel Bowden would be an out and out superstar.

Have a look at Jason Torney - delisted by the Tigers at the end of 2002 and considered gone and is still playing very good football for the Adelaide Crows 5 years later.

Also David Rodan. Not considered good enough by the Tigers but killing them at Port Adelaide.

I would hate to think what Joel Bowden would do in the right team with some depth. Calls for his head before many others is a recipe for further disaster.

It is too easy to consign Joel to the 'poorly skilled' group, however if you have a critical look at what is happening up the field, we just do not seem to find space. Our leads (apart from Richo who presents and presents) are half hearted and often our backline is presented with players who lead into the space and stop, closing down the space for other leads. I would hate to be delivering the ball out of the backline. Then when guys like raines, hyde and newman try to run and carry (which by the way is often the only time that we do successfully transition the ball out of defence) i think we are too quick to criticise them when they get caught.

It reminds me of junior football...swarms following the ball around

Jason was traded not delisted and i believe he wanted to return to Adelaide!!

However i agree that it is rediculous to want to get rid of Bowden right now, he hasn't had his best season so far but he is not alone in this and really is not our biggest problem at the moment .He's not quick enough to play in the midfield but needs to get back to what he does best and start the rebounds out of defence!! and because of regular brain fades should stay away from kick in!!

That was definetly the case last night!! everytime the ball tried to come out of defence there were zero options and no one running to space. There was one play in particular in the last 1/4 where we were bringing the ball out of defence and we had nothing but geelong players ahead and 6 o7 tigers just casually jogging next to or behind the ball carrier which left him no where to go, we turned the ball over and they kicked another goal.

That's alright, Young Tiger - but I fear you're fighting a losing battle at the moment.

The "fans" No 1 whipping boy is no longer there so Bowden has been nominated to take his place.

When it was announced that Gaspar had 'resigned', I posted here on PRE to, please, not stand Bowden at FB.

Evidently, the boot-studder did not pass my message onto Terry.

If they want to blame an individual for last night's debacle then let them blame the boot-studder for failing to give the coach his orders!

I mentioned it in the chatroom last night.Joel is part of the cancer. Not much to offer our young kids except how to let your opponent get front position time and time again.

Having his worst season since Frawley sacked him. A shadow of the player the past three years.

With JB it's mental.
Something's not right for sure.
Defi nately a senior player who needs to be made accountable for the season to date.

Very disappointing. :-\

I reckon we haver to get some balls in the guts.

The only guys who seem to have balls are

N.Foley, M.White and C.Newman

Im not a massive Newman fan as i think he gets a lot of goals kicked on him and doesnt get much criticism, however i reckon now is a good time to see him on ball and see wat he has got.

As for Whitey..he was one of the only guys willing ot chase and take guys on last night.

...also Danny Meyer needs a proper run on the pill or at half back - believe it or not he has guts, skills and pace - LETS SEE THEM!
