I just read a snippet about Joel's charity work in Greenberg's Grabs and it made me think what a wonderful assett Joel is to our club.

He was recently recognised by the AFL when a runner up (to Xavier Clarke) in the 2005 Community Leadership Award. Joel was nominated by the Tigers for his charity work, particularly with the North Richmond Housing Estate. He received $2000 to be put towards the charity of his choice.

I think Joel is our best public speaker. He's articulate, intelligent and sensible.

I don't know why Danny dropped him from the leadership group but thankfully Terry restored him because he's a wonderful role model for the kids coming through.

For a player who's copped so much, often unfairly, from supporters he's really turned things around and would have to have almost universal respect from Richmond fans now.

Congratulations Joel....you do the Richmond Football Club and all associated with it proud.

Danny dropped Joel from the leadership because...............

I suggest a competition for the best completed caption.

Would like to see him wearing no 17. And he was the perfect person to be captain the day we played Essendon for the Sheedy Cup, he knew exactly how to behave with the indigenous leaders.

I totally agree Anduril, always thought he was the best choice for captain, and after the past year his legend grows.

Danny dropped Joel from the leadership because...............IT MADE HIM LEARN AND REALISE WHAT HE'S WORTH.

Hey Rosy, next time Joel gets down to the Commission Flats can you get him to have a look around for the alloy wheels and CDs stolen form my car a few years ago when I lived in Richmond ???

Couldn't disagree more about dropping Joel. At the time, it was one of the very few decisions Spudley got ever got right. Prior to that Joel had played 2 seasons of completely lazy, unaccountable, garbage football and should have been dropped well before that. To his credit he has turned his career around. Probably the kick in the arse he needed.

But couldn't agree more re Frawley being worst RFC coach ever :clap

I'm fairly sure Frawley dropped Bowden from the leadership group because Joel asked to be dropped.
But don't let that get in the way of a bit of Frawley-bashing. :help
You never had to suffer through 5 seasons of this blithering, incompetent, cliche spouting imbecile coaching your club.

Carn has let out a 'claw' statement. :hihi

What do you base that on interested? Do you think Richo asked to be dropped too?

I'm not sure about Richardson, but I remember reading an article where Joel said he had asked to be removed from the leadership group to concentrate on his football. I could well be mistaken however.

good to see you get that off your chest carn feels good doesnt it.
we should never forget dudley let him stand as abeacon of what shouldnt happen in a footy club.as for dropping *smile* he did the right thing albiet in typical frawley fashion 18mnths to late. duddles didnt drop to many players in his time and the worrying thing is our current coach has followed down the frawley path.the only player dropped this yr being hilton when so many insipid performances were put in by so many for long periods of time.

The old "should have been dropped weeks/months/years earlier" chestnut.

The reason why underperforming players are not dropped is because we don't have the depth to do so. We have entered each of the last 20 or so seasons with fewer than 27 or so viable senior players. Under these circumstances, it is difficult enough to cover injuries, let alone drop underperforming senior players.

Even this year, it is not as if the boys at Coburg were dominating the competition and were making it impossible to ignore them.

When we have 30-35 viable senior players on the list I am sure that everyone who deserves to be dropped will be.

Due to a combination of poor recruiting, paying over the odds for the players that we have and list mismanagement over a very long period, we have not had the luxuries that other teams are able to establish
